    Welcome John Paxton,

Thanks for joining Microsoft Q&A Forum.

From what you wrote, I see you're facing an issue with your Realtek audio device displaying the message "This device cannot start. (Code 10)."

This code is commonly associated with driver problems. Here are some ways to fix you can try:

    1. Reinstall the driver from OEM manufacturer

Press the Windows key + X and select Device Manager from the menu

Expand the "Sound, video and game controllers" section

Right-click on Realtek (R) Audio or Realtek USB2.0 Audio device and select Uninstall device.

Check the box that says Delete the driver software for this device.

Click Uninstall and restart your PC.

After the restart, Windows may install a generic driver. For best results, install the specific signed driver from your motherboard manufacturer.

Find the exact model number of your motherboard by searching your computer’s model number on the manufacturer’s website or using the tool msinfo32 (search for it in the Start menu).

Go to the manufacturer’s official website and navigate to the Support or Drivers section.

Locate your motherboard model and download the latest Realtek audio driver for your version of Windows.

    2. If the issue persists, download driver from Realtek:

Uninstall the existing driver and check “Delete the driver software for this device”

Go to Realtek’s official download page to download what they have in their R283 package of drivers and CODECs for Windows 7,8,8.1, and 10.

Note: Above is a third-party website operated by Realtek, not by Microsoft. It appears to be safe and reliable.

Hope this helps, and please let me know how it goes!
