How to Migrate an Entire Confluence Space to Microsoft Sharepoint

I am looking for possible solutions to migrate an entire Confluence space to SharePoint. This space is incredibly large and over 10 years old, so copying and pasting is not feasible. What is the best way to perform this migration? I would like to retain all functionality as a page, not just uploading as files. There are links, navigation, labels, and many other types of essential content across the site. I understand that there are third-party solutions, such as Tzunami and Enterprise Bridge, but this seems like it should be something Microsoft could do natively.

Migrating an entire Confluence space to Microsoft SharePoint can be challenging, especially when retaining all functionalities such as links, navigation, and labels. While Microsoft does not provide a native tool specifically for migrating Confluence spaces, there are a few approaches you can consider:

    1. Third-Party Migration Tools: As you mentioned, tools like Tzunami and Enterprise Bridge are designed to facilitate the migration of content from Confluence to SharePoint. These tools can help preserve the structure and functionality of your Confluence space during the migration process.
    2. Manual Migration: If third-party tools are not an option, you might need to consider a more manual approach. This could involve exporting content from Confluence in a format that can be imported into SharePoint, though this may not fully retain all functionalities and would likely require additional adjustments post-migration.
    3. Custom Development: If your organization has specific needs, developing a custom solution using SharePoint Framework or Power Automate could be an option. This would allow you to tailor the migration process to your requirements, although it would require significant development resources.
    4. Pilot Migration: Regardless of the method you choose, it is advisable to conduct a pilot migration with a small set of users to validate the process and gather feedback before proceeding with the full migration.

Since your Confluence space is large and complex, leveraging a third-party solution may be the most efficient way to ensure a smooth transition to SharePoint while retaining the necessary functionalities.

    Dear @Sydney Jenkins,

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

To migrate an entire Confluence space to Microsoft SharePoint while retaining functionality like links, navigation, and labels, unfortunately, Microsoft does not provide a native tool for migrating Confluence spaces directly to SharePoint. For example: the official SharePoint Migration Tool (SPMT) only supports migration from SharePoint Server, file shares, and certain cloud sources. For reference: Overview of the SharePoint Migration Tool (SPMT)

Here are the lists of the current migration options supported by Microsoft’s SharePoint Migration Tool (SPMT). These include:

For this reason, you can consider performing this migration by using specialized third-party tools designed for Confluence-to-SharePoint migration or if you’d like to confirm whether Microsoft has any enterprise-specific options, I recommend contacting Microsoft Support. They can:

    • Verify if there are any preview programs or partner-led migration services.
    • Provide guidance on supported tools and best practices for large-scale migrations.
    • If you have business account, here is step-by-step how to contact Microsoft Support, please refer to Get support for Microsoft 365 for business

Moreover, I completely agree that having a native solution to migrate an entire Confluence space to SharePoint, while preserving links, navigation, and labels, is extremely important for organizations managing large, complex knowledge bases. This capability would significantly reduce manual effort and ensure a seamless transition without losing critical functionality.

In this case, your feedback is vital in shaping future product improvements, and I strongly encourage you to share this suggestion directly with the Microsoft Product Team through the official feedback channels. Therefore, to ensure your feedback reaches the right teams, I highly recommend submitting your feedback directly to Microsoft Ideas · Community, where our product development team can know your requirements and ideas for product improvements. If enough users raise ticket for the same idea, Microsoft may consider adding this feature in the future.
