Developing and testing features or extensions for Microsoft Edge
Hi @Emmanuel Njendeh ,
Thanks for reaching out.
The good news: IE mode itself hasn’t been removed. That “version drop” you’re seeing is an internal detail that can shift after updates or configuration changes; it doesn’t mean IE mode is broken or unsupported. In fact, Microsoft confirms IE mode in Edge is supported through at least 2029, with at least one year’s notice before support ends: Lifecycle FAQ – Internet Explorer and Microsoft Edge.
Let’s get you back up and running. Start by updating both Edge and Windows. In Edge, type or paste edge://settings/help in the address bar and install any updates, then restart Edge. Also run Windows Update and reboot - IE mode relies on Windows components, not just the browser.
Next, make sure IE mode is allowed. Open Edge Settings, go to Default browser, and set “Allow sites to be reloaded in Internet Explorer mode” to Allow. Restart Edge after changing it.
When you open your site, you may or may not see “Reload in Internet Explorer mode” in the menu (…). If the option is missing, that’s normal: it can be hidden if your device is managed, if the page isn’t eligible, or if IE mode is meant to be applied automatically via configuration. You should still see a banner at the top confirming the page is opened in IE mode. If the banner shows “Open this page in Internet Explorer mode next time,” turning it on will usually keep it enabled for about 30 days unless your organization’s policies say otherwise.
If this is a work or managed device, IE mode works best when configured by policy. Your IT team can confirm policies at edge://policy (looking for “Configure Internet Explorer integration” set to InternetExplorerMode) and check the Enterprise Site List at edge://compat/enterprise (to verify the URL, version, and last fetched time). If the site list was recently updated, bumping its version and restarting Edge helps because Edge caches the list. For deeper visibility, edge://compat/iediagnostic on the affected page will show why IE mode is - or isn’t - engaging.
If IE mode still won’t load after all of that, your IT team can run a quick integrity check of Windows components:
sfc /scannow. Reboot and test again.DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth.If you need more help, feel free to loop in your IT team or contact Microsoft Support here: Microsoft Support – Contact us. Sharing your Edge version (edge://settings/help), Windows build, and screenshots or exports from edge://policy, edge://compat/enterprise, and edge://compat/iediagnostic will speed up troubleshooting.
Hope this helps! If my answer was helpful - kindly follow the instructions here so others with the same problem can benefit as well.
