Using Microsoft Teams on macOS, including installation, features, and compatibility
Hi @Chris Wengler,
Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.
Based on the details you shared, I understand that Copilot is not appearing in Microsoft Teams on both the desktop and web versions, even after you upgraded from a personal Microsoft account to a Premium subscription. I truly understand how important it is to have Copilot available in Teams, and I appreciate the time and effort you have already spent verifying this across platforms.
In many cases, this behavior occurs because Copilot availability in Teams depends on the account type and the specific Copilot entitlement, not only on a general Premium upgrade. Additionally, if Teams is signed in with a different account than the one that holds the Copilot eligible subscription, the Copilot entry point may not display. As a result, confirming the active sign in profile and licensing association is the most effective way to restore the feature.
To improve delivery and make this work more consistently, please try the steps below in order:
1/ Confirm Teams is signed in with the correct account
- Open Teams and select your profile picture in the top right.
- Review the account shown and confirm it matches the account that was upgraded.
- If you see multiple accounts, sign out of Teams, then sign back in using only the account intended for Copilot.
- After signing in, close Teams completely and reopen it so the client reloads the updated account context.
2/ Verify that the Copilot eligible subscription is associated with the same identity used in Teams
- Go to your Microsoft account subscriptions and confirm the Premium plan is active under the same email address you use to sign in to Teams.
- If you also have a work or school account, ensure Teams is not defaulting to the personal profile, since Copilot in Teams is often tied to organizational entitlements.
- After any change in subscription or sign in, allow 30 to 60 minutes for licensing to refresh, then restart Teams and check again in both the desktop and web apps.
3/ Refresh Teams client data and ensure you are on the latest Teams build
- Update Teams to the latest version available for your device.
- Fully quit Teams, then reopen it to force a clean reload of feature settings and licensing signals.
- If Copilot is still missing, clear the Teams cache and restart Teams again, then recheck Copilot in the same account session.
4/ Contact IT administrator:
Since your account is managed by your organization, please contact your IT administrator to review your permissions and policies. If the issue persists after these checks, ask your IT administrator to submit a support request directly to Microsoft Support team.
