The data refresh feature is not provided in excel for ipad pro. Unable to update mutual fund NAVs on a daily basis owing to this. Please advise when the same is being update on excel for Ipad pro

    Hi, M K

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.

Thanks for your question. Excel on iPad is designed mainly for viewing and editing, so many “data connection” features, including a manual Refresh All for external sources, are currently limited or missing compared with desktop Excel.

Here are some suggestions you can try:

Use Excel for the web on your iPad (Safari or Edge) for the refresh step

Excel for the web includes Power Query refresh options, including Data > Refresh All and refresh from the Queries pane, so you can update the NAV data there, then continue viewing and editing the same workbook on iPad.

If your current workbook uses features the web version struggles with, you can still keep a separate “NAV table” workbook that refreshes in the web app, and link or copy the refreshed values into your main file afterward.

Refresh on a PC or Mac once daily, then open on iPad

Desktop Excel is the most complete version for external data connections and refresh behavior, so it can pull the latest NAVs reliably, save the file back to OneDrive/SharePoint, and your iPad will simply open the already-updated results. This matches Microsoft’s guidance that iPad has feature limitations compared to desktop.

Send a feature request from the Excel iPad app, and track updates

Microsoft actively uses in-app feedback to prioritize missing capabilities. In the Excel iPad app, use the “?” feedback option (as referenced by Microsoft support responses) and include what you need: “Refresh All for external data, daily NAV update.”

Practical tip: also keep Excel updated in the App Store, since improvements are delivered through app updates, not just Office subscription changes.

Hope this helps. If you tell me how your NAVs are pulled in today (Stocks data type, a website query, Power Query, or a linked file), I can suggest the most reliable of the options above for your exact setup.

    Have a nice day!

Currently, the data refresh functionality in Excel for iPad Pro is limited, and it does not support refreshing data connections directly from the application. This limitation can affect users who need to update data, such as mutual fund NAVs, on a daily basis. As of now, there is no specific information available regarding when this feature will be updated or made available on the iPad Pro version of Excel.

For users needing to refresh data, a workaround is to use the Excel client application on a desktop or laptop, where data refresh capabilities are fully supported.
