Hacked account can't recover

Somebody hacked my account, changed the email and password and I am unable to recover it. I need to contact somebody but there is no way to contact a human being through the support website. Is there anything I can do about this or should I cut my losses? If I try to sign in it says "enter code we sent to" and the email they send the code to is not my email. My password is not working either to sign in, I have tried the automated recovery form but since I don't use the account for much there isn't enough info to pass the auto screening. Is there any real customer support or all unhelpful self-serve?

Hey there! Nice to meet you!

I'm sorry you are experiencing this.

The only way to recover a hacked account is through the official Microsoft troubleshooter guide:

    https://support.microsoft.com/account-billing/how-to-recover-a-hacked-or-compromised-microsoft-account-24ca907d-bcdf-a44b-4656-47f0cd89c245

If the account recovery web form doesn't work, and since the security info has been replaced by the hacker, I'm afraid there is no other working method to recover the Microsoft account, and Microsoft Support cannot help either.

However, I would recommend reaching out to Microsoft Support immediately as they can possibly "Suspend" the account permanently once they have confirmed that the account can no longer be recovered in order to prevent the hacker from using it:

    https://support.microsoft.com/home/contact?SourceApp=smc2&ContactUsExperienceEntryPointAssetId=S.HP.SmcContactUsLanding

Type "Microsoft 365 sign-in problem" > Click "Get Help" > Scroll down and select the option "Sign in to contact Support" > Microsoft 365 and Office > Billing and Account Profile Questions > Confirm > then select "Chat with a support agent in your web browser"

    Thank you for your understanding.

    Best regards,

    Darhyl

For a hacked Microsoft account where the email and password were changed and the verification code now goes to the attacker’s address, only the official automated recovery paths can be used. Human support cannot bypass these systems or manually reset the account for security reasons.

    Use these options, in order:

    1. Run through the hacked-account troubleshooter
    2. Try standard account recovery (ACSR)
      • Go to the recovery form: Recover your account or directly via the ACSR flow referenced in the guidance.
      • Enter the hacked email address and an alternate email where messages can be received.
      • Provide as many details as possible (old passwords, approximate creation date, contacts, subject lines, devices used). The system relies entirely on this data to verify ownership.
      • If the form is rejected, it can be retried with better information up to two times per day. See: Help with the Microsoft account recovery form.
    3. If the account “does not exist” or recovery keeps failing
      • If the system reports that the account does not exist or the recovery form is consistently unsuccessful, there is no alternative manual override. Support agents are explicitly not allowed to send password reset links or change account details on consumer Microsoft accounts.
      • This is confirmed in the guidance for failed recovery attempts: Account recovery unsuccessful.
    4. When to accept loss of the account
      • If:
        • the security info has been fully replaced by the hacker,
        • the verification code only goes to addresses not controlled anymore, and
        • repeated, carefully completed recovery forms still fail,
      • then there is no further supported method to regain access. In that case, the practical option is to cut losses, create a new Microsoft account, and secure it with strong password and up-to-date security info.
    5. If Outlook.com or sign-in is blocked (related scenario)
      • If the account is only blocked (not fully taken over), the Sign-in Helper can also be used from the Outlook.com unblock page: Unblock my Outlook.com account.

There is real customer support, but for hacked consumer accounts they cannot override the automated security checks. All recovery must go through the Sign-in Helper, the password reset flow, and the account recovery form.
