New outlook : how to enable moving mails between 2 accounts

My M365 outlook installation for our organisation just updated to 'new' outlook, with no option to use "classic" outlook now shown.

A key feature we use is the ability to move messages between multiple accounts. This is now blocked due to "organisational policy" which needs to be set to allow this.

I found this:

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/4719145/enabling-the-moving-of-emails-between-accounts-in?page=2#answers

but the process fails when doing

Set-OrganizationConfig AllowCrossTenantMailboxMove $true

with this error:

Set-OrganizationConfig : Impossible de trouver un paramètre correspondant au nom « AllowCrossTenantMailboxMove ». Au caractère Ligne:1 : 24

  • Set-OrganizationConfig -AllowCrossTenantMailboxMove $true
  • ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    • CategoryInfo : InvalidArgument : (:) [Set-OrganizationConfig], ParameterBindingException
    • FullyQualifiedErrorId : NamedParameterNotFound,Set-OrganizationConfig

how can I get this to work rapidly for our organisation's users????

I'll answer my own question : this is a limitation of "new Outlook" and it does not support any way of copying emails between M365 mailboxes.

Workaround : rollback to "old Outlook", potentially by re-installing it using a link from MS Support (this is what I did, thank you MS support france for enabling this for me)

This is still one of the top requests for the new Outlook client, vote it up here: https://feedbackportal.microsoft.com/feedback/idea/a8f3f9c5-75bd-ed11-83ff-002248273995

    Hi @Brian Wyld,

I have checked Set-OrganizationConfig command via Set-OrganizationConfig (ExchangePowerShell) | Microsoft Learn and seems like the error you are encountered is an expected behavior since there is no further “AllowCrossTenantMailboxMove” parameter in the command.

In this case for my experience, you will need to run this following command to enable moving emails between accounts:

You will need to find your policy name by running this command:

    • Get-OwaMailboxPolicy

Note: After the script has been run successfully, it will take time to enable the policy, and users may need to restart the Outlook.

If you are uncomfortable with PowerShell scripts, you can open a support ticket via Microsoft Admin Center by following this article: Get support - Microsoft 365 admin | Microsoft Learn.
