    Hello,

When you checked, did you check https://account.live.com > sign in > sign in preference, if so, this is the wrong place. Items listed here is treated as alias/username.

You need to go to Security > Manage How I sign in instead.

    Hello,

If the verification code is being sent to the wrong number, please try the

    following:

    1. Go to https://account.microsoft.com/security and add a new email address as a security info method.
    2. After adding it, check whether you can receive the verification code at the new email address.
    3. Once the new method is confirmed, try signing in again and see if the correct verification option appears.
Also, have you recently changed your phone number?

When the verification phone number shown during sign-in does not match the actual number on the account, the issue is usually with which security info is being used or with the sign-in flow, not with the stored number itself.

Do the following checks and fixes:

    1. Confirm the correct security info on the account
      1. Go to the Microsoft account security page and open Security info / recovery options.
      2. Verify that the correct phone number is listed and that there are no old or unknown phone numbers or email addresses.
      3. If an old or unrecognized phone/email is listed, remove it so it can no longer be offered for verification.
    2. Check for domain or account mix-ups When the verification prompt shows a phone/email that does not look right, it can be because a different Microsoft account is being used:
      1. Make sure the correct Outlook.com address is being entered, including the correct domain (for example, outlook.com, hotmail.com, live.com, or regional variants like .co.uk).
      2. Confirm the spelling of the alias (for example, rachel vs rachael).
      3. If the correct address is confirmed but the wrong phone/email still appears, start the account recovery flow and follow the prompts to prove ownership and update security info.
    3. If the security prompt still shows an unrecognized phone/email If the sign-in screen continues to show a phone or email that is not recognized even after checking the above, use the account recovery option:
      1. On the sign-in verification page, choose the option that indicates none of the listed info is accessible or recognized.
      2. Follow the recovery process to verify identity and regain control, then update security info so only correct phone/email entries remain.

If the account in question is a work or school account (Microsoft Entra ID / Azure AD) rather than a personal Outlook.com account, contact the organization’s administrator so they can review and correct the phone numbers stored on the user object.
