Follow these steps to fix the camera not working and error 0xA00F42B3 when using Teams and the Camera app:

    1. Check camera privacy settings
      1. Open Start > Settings > Privacy > Camera (or use the link Allow access to the camera on this device if available).
      2. Make sure Camera access for this device is turned On.
      3. Make sure Allow apps to access your camera is turned On.
      4. Scroll down and turn On camera access for Microsoft Store apps that need it.
      5. Also ensure Allow desktop apps to access your camera is turned On so desktop apps like Microsoft Teams can use it.
    2. Close apps that may be blocking the camera
      1. Close all apps that might be using the camera.
      2. Right‑click the taskbar, select Task Manager.
      3. In Processes, look for apps that could be using the camera (other meeting tools, browsers, camera utilities), right‑click each and select End task.
      4. Try opening the Camera app again, then try Teams.
    3. Test the camera in the Windows Camera app
      1. Select Start > Camera.
      2. If prompted to allow access, select Yes.
      3. If the preview works here but not in Teams, the issue is with Teams or its settings rather than Windows.
    4. Check for Windows and camera driver updates
      1. Go to Start > Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates.
      2. If available, select Advanced options > Optional updates and look for any driver updates for the camera.
      3. Install available updates and restart the PC.
      4. After restart, open the Camera app and then Teams to test.
    5. Run the camera troubleshooter
      1. Go to Start > Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
      2. Find Camera and select Run.
      3. Apply any fixes it suggests, then restart and test again.
    6. Check antivirus or firewall
      1. Open the antivirus or security suite in use.
      2. Look for any camera/webcam protection settings that could be blocking access.
      3. Temporarily disable that specific protection and test the Camera app and Teams.

If the camera still shows a black image or remains blocked after these steps, test the camera on another device to rule out hardware failure, and for Teams specifically, verify that another camera or port (for USB cameras) works as indicated in the Teams-related answers.

    Hi Isabel Stein,

    Thank you for reaching out.

Because the camera is not opening in the Windows Camera app either, this appears to be a system-level camera detection or driver issue, not only a Teams setting. In addition to Q&A Assist's response, you can consider trying these checking steps:

1, Check whether the camera is disabled in Windows

    • Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Cameras
    • If the webcam appears under Disabled cameras, select it and choose Enable.

2, Check for a hardware camera switch or privacy shutter

    • Some laptops have a physical shutter, side switch, or Fn key that disables the camera at hardware level.
    • If present, make sure it is turned back on.

3, Reinstall the camera from Device Manager

    • Open Device Manager
    • Expand Cameras (or Imaging devices)
    • Right-click the webcam and choose Uninstall device
    • Restart the PC so Windows can detect it again.

4, Try the generic USB Video Device driver

    • In Device Manager, right-click the camera > Update driver
    • Select Browse my computer for drivers
    • Choose Let me pick from a list
    • If available, select USB Video Device and complete the install.

If the webcam is missing completely in Device Manager or does not return after reinstalling, the next best step would be to check the device manufacturer’s support page or contact your IT admin if this is a managed work device.

I hope this helps narrow it down and get the camera working again. Let me know if you need further assistance, feel free to ask me by clicking "Add Comment" or "Add Answer" if you cannot add comment so your response will be visible. Thanks for your effort.
