    Hello,

There has been a service issue earlier today, but looks like it has been resolved, at least with the solution posted here (I know it mentions iPhone, but the instruction should be the same for iPad too).

    https://status.cloud.microsoft/

User impact: iOS users may experience issues accessing Outlook and Hotmail from the default Mail app.

More info: iOS users on iPhones MUST take the following steps to re-enter their password and access their accounts:

    1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
    2. Scroll down and tap on Mail.
    3. Select Accounts under the Mail settings.
    4. Tap on the email account for which you need to reenter the password.
    5. Tap on Account Settings or directly on the Password field (depending on your iOS version).
    6. Enter the updated or correct password in the Password field.
    7. Tap Done to save the changes.
    8. Open the Mail app to confirm that the account is syncing properly and emails are being sent/received.

Final status: iOS users MUST take the additional steps listed in the "More info" section above to resolve impact. We’ve confirmed service health has returned to normal and reporting users that have completed the additional steps are now able to access Outlook and Hotmail. We'll keep this post up for 24 hours to ensure users are able to review and take the mitigating actions.

End time: Monday, April 27, 2026, at 7:16 PM UTC

This is the final update for the event.

Try the following steps on the iPad to resolve the sign-in issue.

    1. Confirm the account and password
    • Make sure the same email address and password used successfully on the iPhone and laptop are entered on the iPad.
    • If there is any chance the password has changed, reset or confirm it using another device where the account is already signed in.
    • If using a work or school account, verify with the IT admin that the correct username/UPN is being used and that the account is active.
    1. Use Microsoft’s sign-in helper (for personal Microsoft accounts)
    • On a browser (can be on the iPad or another device), run the sign-in helper tool from the article “Can’t sign in to the Outlook mobile app” and follow the prompts. It will detect common account issues and guide through fixing them.
    1. Remove and re-add the account in the Outlook app (if using Outlook for iOS)
    • Open Outlook on the iPad.
    • Go to Settings.
    • Select the affected email account.
    • Choose Delete Account.
    • Add the account again from Settings > Add Account, then sign in with the same credentials that work on the iPhone/laptop.
    • This is the recommended workaround when Outlook mobile has trouble after account or alias changes.
    1. If using Apple Mail with a Microsoft 365 account
    • Open Settings on the iPad.
    • Go to Apps > Mail > Mail Accounts.
    • Select the Microsoft/Exchange account and re-enter the login credentials when prompted.
    • If that fails, delete and re-add the account:
      • Settings > Apps > Mail > Mail Accounts > Exchange > Delete Account.
      • Then Settings > Apps > Mail > Mail Accounts > Add Account > Microsoft Exchange and sign in again.
    1. If sign-in is still blocked or repeatedly fails
    • If messages like “tried to sign in too many times” appear, stop trying on the iPad for at least 24 hours before attempting again.
    • If the account itself cannot be signed in anywhere (not your case now, but if it happens), use the Microsoft account recovery and sign-in helper tools from the “I can’t sign in to my Microsoft account” article.

If none of these steps work, use another device where the account is signed in to access the support options and contact Microsoft support for direct assistance.
