Follow these steps based on the type of account and the fact that access is blocked on Outlook for iOS on an iPhone 14 Pro Max:
- Determine the account type
- If the address ends with @outlook.com, @hotmail.com, @live.com, or @msn.com → Microsoft personal account.
- If it is a work/school address (Microsoft 365) → work or school account.
- If it is Gmail, Yahoo, iCloud, etc. → non-Microsoft account.
- If it is a Microsoft personal Outlook account
- Use the Microsoft sign-in helper to diagnose and fix most sign-in issues:
- Go to the sign-in helper via this link and follow the prompts to check the account and reset credentials if needed: Start.
- If password was recently changed on the web, ensure the Outlook app is using the new password by signing out and back in.
- If there are recurring password prompts, install or update to the latest Outlook for iOS version from the App Store: download the latest version.
- If it is a work or school Microsoft 365 account
- If self-service password reset is allowed, reset the password here: Reset password.
- If self-service reset is not enabled or the reset does not work, contact the organization’s IT administrator to check for account lockout, conditional access, or mobile access restrictions.
- If it is a non-Microsoft email account in Outlook for iOS
- Outlook cannot fix sign-in issues for Gmail, Yahoo, iCloud, etc. Contact that email provider’s support to resolve password or security problems.
- After fixing the account with the provider, remove the account from Outlook for iOS and add it again.
- If the app shows “Access Denied” or similar login error
- If an “Access Denied: Login Error” message appears, the account has been blocked from using Outlook Mobile by policy. Only the IT administrator can unblock it; Outlook support agents cannot.
- If Outlook on iPhone is locked out but other devices work
- If sign-in works on a computer or another phone but not on the iPhone 14 Pro Max, try:
- Remove the account from Outlook for iOS.
- Make sure Outlook for iOS is updated to the latest version.
- Re-add the account and complete the sign-in flow.
- If the error persists and mentions trying a different device or method, using a different network (or VPN as in similar mobile cases) and then signing in via a browser to account.microsoft.com before retrying Outlook can help.
- If completely locked out due to too many attempts
- When there have been many failed sign-in or recovery attempts, Microsoft may temporarily lock the account. In that case, wait at least 24 hours without further attempts before trying again, then use the official recovery/sign-in tools above from a familiar device and network.
If the problem continues after these steps, use the sign-in helper for personal accounts or contact the organization’s IT admin for work/school accounts, as forum agents and Outlook support cannot manually unlock or bypass account security.
