Error code 0x8007007B

Question

I have had text in the corner of my screen for around if not over 6 months now saying "activate windows. Go to settings to activate windows". When i go to do this it then says on the settings app "We can't activate Windows on this device because we can't connect to

your organisation's activation server. Make sure that you're connected to

your organisation's network and try again. If you continue having

problems with activation, contact your organisation's support person. Error

code: 0x8007007B" When i troubleshoot it says "We found a Windows 11 Home digital licence for this device running Windows 11 Pro. To activate

using this digital licence, you need to install Windows 11 Home." and the help page connected just takes me to troubleshooting errors

Error code 0x8007007B appears because the device is trying to activate a Windows Enterprise/volume-licensed edition (or Pro with a volume key) against an organization’s activation server, but the device is not on that organization’s network or does not have the correct matching key.

In this scenario, the troubleshooter also reports that the device has a Windows 11 Home digital license, but is currently running Windows 11 Pro. A Windows 11 Home digital license cannot activate Windows 11 Pro. To resolve this, use one of these paths:

1. If Windows 11 Home is acceptable:
   1. Back up important files.
   2. Reinstall or reset Windows and choose Windows 11 Home, or use installation media to install Windows 11 Home.
   3. Once Windows 11 Home is installed and the device is online, it should activate automatically using the existing Windows 11 Home digital license.
2. If Windows 11 Pro is required:
   1. Obtain a valid Windows 11 Pro product key (retail or OEM) that matches the edition installed.
   2. Go to Start > Settings > System > Activation.
   3. Select Change product key, and enter the 25-character Windows 11 Pro key.
   4. Complete activation while connected to the internet.

If the error persists after entering a correct Pro key, run the Activation troubleshooter from the same Activation settings page. If a different error code appears, follow the guidance for that specific code.
