I renewed and paid for my subscription? Do I need to load on Microsoft Word or Excel?

Hello,

If this is a renewal and the apps were already installed, just go ahead and continue to use them. If they want you to renew, go to Files > Accounts > Update license, log in again and that should refresh the license.

If the Microsoft 365 subscription was renewed and is active, Word and Excel do not need to be reinstalled. The existing Office apps will continue to work once the subscription is properly activated.

If a “subscription canceled,” “product deactivated,” or similar message still appears in Word or Excel after renewal, do the following:

1. Verify the subscription status at the Microsoft account subscriptions page to confirm it shows as active.
2. In Word or Excel, go to File → Account and make sure the app is signed in with the same Microsoft account that has the active subscription.
3. In the same Account page, use the option to update or refresh the license, then sign in again with the correct account.

If the subscription was changed to Microsoft 365 Basic, note that this plan does not include desktop Word or Excel. In that case, the installed desktop apps will stop working and either:

• Use the web versions of Word and Excel, or
• Upgrade to a plan such as Microsoft 365 Personal or Family that includes the desktop apps.

There is no need to “load” (reinstall) Word or Excel again unless the wrong edition is installed or a different perpetual product (such as Office 2024) is being set up.
