- Does the external USB drive light up or make any sound when connected to the Dell laptop?
- Have you tried connecting it to a different USB port on the laptop?
- Does the same external USB drive appear on another computer?
- Is the drive missing only from File Explorer, or is it missing from Disk Management as well?
- Are you connecting the drive directly to the laptop, or through a USB hub/adapter?

1.Check File Explorer
- Press Windows + E to open File Explorer, then select This PC and check whether the external drive appears under Devices and drives.
2.Try another USB port
- Disconnect the external drive and connect it to another USB port on the laptop. If you are using a USB hub or adapter, please connect the drive directly to the laptop for testing.
3.Check Disk Management
- Right-click the Start button and select Disk Management. Please check whether the external drive appears in the list.
4.Check Device Manager
- Right-click the Start button and select Device Manager. Expand Disk drives and Universal Serial Bus controllers, then check whether the external USB drive appears there.
5.Restart the laptop with the drive disconnected
- Disconnect the external USB drive, restart the Dell laptop, wait until Windows loads completely, then connect the drive again and check whether it appears.
6.Test the drive on another computer
- If possible, connect the same external USB drive to another computer.
