Error 0X80070490 when installing a Microsoft Store game like Forza Horizon 5 usually indicates a Store or Gaming Services issue. Try these steps in order:

    1. Reset the Microsoft Store cache
      1. Press Windows key + R.
      2. Type wsreset.exe and select OK.
      3. A blank Command Prompt opens; after ~10 seconds it closes and Microsoft Store opens automatically.
      4. Try downloading Forza Horizon 5 again from Microsoft Store.
    2. Reset the Microsoft Store app
      1. Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
      2. Find Microsoft Store, select the three dots → Advanced options.
      3. Select Reset.
      4. Restart the PC and try the download again.
    3. Check common Store visibility/installation blockers If the game still will not install, verify:
      1. The game is available in the current country/region set in Windows.
      2. Microsoft family settings are not blocking the game (especially if using a child account).
      3. The game is still available in Microsoft Store and not withdrawn.
      4. The device meets requirements and the game is compatible with the PC; Store will block incompatible apps.
      5. The PC has been restarted after recent Windows Updates.
      6. The PC is authorized and signed in with the same Microsoft account used to purchase/play the game. See Add a device to your Microsoft account in the linked docs.
    4. Install via the Xbox app instead of Microsoft Store For some games (including Forza titles), installation via the Xbox app can bypass Store issues:
      1. Open the Xbox app on Windows.
      2. Sign in with the same Microsoft account used for the game.
      3. Go to My Library and locate Forza Horizon 5.
      4. Start the install from there.
    5. Ensure Gaming Services and Xbox app are healthy (if using Xbox app/Game Pass) If installation via Xbox app also fails, update Gaming Services and the Xbox app:
      1. Run PowerShell as Administrator.
      2. Remove and reinstall Gaming Services:
        • get-appxpackage Microsoft.GamingServices | remove-AppxPackage -allusers
        • Then in the same PowerShell window: start ms-windows-store://pdp/?productid=9MWPM2CQNLHN and install the app shown.
      3. If needed, similarly refresh the Xbox app:
        • get-appxpackage Microsoft.XboxApp | remove-AppxPackage -allusers
        • Then: start ms-windows-store://pdp/?productid=9mv0b5hzvk9z and install the app shown.
      4. Retry installing Forza Horizon 5 from the Xbox app.

If, after these steps, the game still will not download and other Store apps work, contact game-specific support (Forza/Xbox support) with the error code and steps already tried.
