Microsoft 365 BASIC

2026-05-27T14:36:20.3833333+00:00

Hello, I accidentally purchased the Microsoft 365 Basic plan instead of the plan I wanted. I would like to cancel the subscription and request a refund, please. I was charged $20 USD. Could you please help me with this process? Thank you.

    Hello

You can use the AI answer to cancel.

Typically within 30 days, especially if this is made by mistake, even if you cannot be qualified for prorated refund, you can still contact billing support to ask for a refund so you can correct your order.

To get help, open the "Get Help" app on your computer (just search for it in the Start menu). or go to https://support.microsoft.com/contactus, Type "Billing" and press Enter. On the next screen, click "Contact support" at the bottom of the page, then choose "Microsoft 365" > "Manage my subscription". You’ll then see the option to chat with a Microsoft support agent who has access to your account to help review the issue.

To cancel the Microsoft 365 Basic subscription and check if a refund is possible, follow these steps:

    1. Go to the Microsoft account Services page for Microsoft 365: https://account.microsoft.com/services/microsoft365 and sign in with the same Microsoft account that was used to purchase the Microsoft 365 Basic subscription.
    2. Find the Microsoft 365 Basic subscription and select Manage.
      • If instead of Manage there is a link that says Turn on recurring billing, the subscription is already set to expire on the date shown and no further charges will occur.
    3. On the next page, select Cancel (it may appear as Upgrade or Cancel).
    4. Follow the on-screen steps and choose I don't want my subscription to complete cancellation.

To request or check eligibility for a refund:

    1. Refund eligibility for Microsoft 365 Basic requires cancelling the subscription first, using the steps above.
    2. After cancellation, eligibility is determined automatically according to Microsoft’s subscription refund rules. Not all cancellations result in a refund.
    3. In some countries (such as Canada, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Israel, Korea, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, and Turkey), cancelling may entitle to a prorated refund depending on subscription length. Details are in the “Countries with prorated refunds for Microsoft subscriptions” article linked from the refund help page.
    4. If the subscription was purchased through Google Play or the Apple App Store, cancellation and any refund must be requested directly from those stores, not from Microsoft.

If there are issues cancelling (for example, no cancel option appears), check:

    • That the correct Microsoft account is being used (the one that made the purchase).
    • That there is no overdue balance on the subscription; overdue amounts must be paid before cancellation.
    • Whether the subscription was purchased from a third-party retailer (such as Amazon or another store); in that case, contact the retailer directly to manage billing and any refund.
