I cancelled my subscription to mircosoft365. I am now unable to share my wife's subscription on my computer. How do I fix it?

What do you mean by share your wife's subscription? Are you saying she's the holder of a family plan, and you want to join her family plan?

If so, check your personal plan online in your account https://account.live.com > subscriptions. When does it expire? You might want to wait til it expires to join. As long as she invites you on your same Microsoft account, you will not experience data loss.

Canceling a personal Microsoft 365 subscription does not prevent using a spouse’s shared Microsoft 365 Family or Premium subscription, but access depends on how the sharing is set up and whether the other subscription is active.

To fix access on the computer, follow these steps:

    1. Confirm wife’s subscription type and status
      • The wife must be the subscription holder of an active Microsoft 365 Family or Microsoft 365 Premium subscription; only these can be shared.
      • She should sign in at the Subscriptions page of her Microsoft account dashboard and verify that the subscription is active and that Share subscription / Start sharing is available.
    2. Ensure sharing is correctly set up
      • From her account, go to the Microsoft 365 Sharing page: https://account.microsoft.com/services/office/sharing (as given in the context).
      • If not already shared, she must share the subscription with a maximum of five people.
      • She can share by:
        • Email invite: enter the email address that is used on the computer and select Invite.
        • Create link: select Copy link and send that link; when it is opened and signed in with a Microsoft account, that account is added to the subscription.
    3. Accept the invitation correctly
      • On receiving the invite, select Get started, then Join now to join the Microsoft family group and accept the shared subscription.
      • Acceptance must occur within 48 hours; otherwise, the invitation needs to be resent.
    4. Verify membership and status
      • On the wife’s Share subscription section, check the list of people:
        • If the account shows as Pending invite, resend the invitation.
        • If already shared, it should appear under people the subscription has been shared with.
    5. Sign in on the computer with the shared account
      • On the affected computer, open a Microsoft 365 app (for example, Word).
      • Go to File > Account and sign out of any old or canceled account.
      • Sign in with the Microsoft account that accepted the wife’s shared subscription.
      • If needed, use Update license (in File > Account) after signing in so the app picks up the new subscription.

If the wife’s subscription has expired or she stops sharing, all shared benefits (desktop apps, 1 TB OneDrive storage) are lost on the computer, even though files remain accessible in view-only mode.
