OneDrive broken on MacOS 13.6.2 as of June 2026 - help

OneDrive is no longer working on my M2 Macbook Pro running 13.6.2

  • ALL of my work documents are sync'd, many offloaded, so this is a real disaster.
  • It is NOT the first time that this has happened - OneDrive autoupdating itself and bricking itself in the process. Ridiculous design.

I have tried:

  • resetting OneDrive from within its package - did not work
  • deleting and redownloading from the App Store - did not work
  • deleting and downloading from microsoft themselves - will not even let me install, says cannot install to this location
  • Ringing support here in Ireland - could not talk to a person, got redirected to help.microsoft.com
  • Could not even get an online chat with human agent going [that fixed it last year]

Honestly, to charge money for a yearly subscription and then pull this stuff is criminal. I am absolutely raging.

Has anybody got a solution, I work in education and have around 800GB of content sync'd and mainly offloaded - working via the web doesn't cut it.

Please help! The current [broken] version of OneDrive on my machine is 26.084.0504.

Thanks

Hi @Pete Meighan

I understand how disruptive and stressful this situation is, especially when you rely on OneDrive and have hundreds of gigabytes of work content stored. When an application updates itself and then stops functioning, it can leave you feeling stuck with very few options, particularly when you need access to your files for work.

Just to clarify, we're not Microsoft Support; this is a user-to-user support forum. We don't have access to Microsoft's internal systems, nor can we control update behavior, provide official legacy installers, or intervene directly in product functionality. What we can do is share observations, testing results, and publicly available information that may help.

Unfortunately, Microsoft appears to have ended support for macOS Ventura in the latest OneDrive builds. The current OneDrive app distributed through the Mac App Store now requires macOS 14.4 or later, which means Ventura 13.6.2 is no longer supported by that installer.

Christian Hariman has reported success by installing an older OneDrive version that still supports Ventura in this thread, you may give it a try since I cannot verify this on my end:

If you choose to use an older version, you will likely need to disable Microsoft AutoUpdate. Otherwise, OneDrive may update itself to a newer version that is incompatible with Ventura and stop working again. Please also be aware that running older software versions can expose you to security vulnerabilities and future compatibility issues.

Please let me how it goes. Or if you know which OneDrive build previously worked on macOS 13.6.2 please kindly share it, as that information would be greatly appreciated. You can review OneDrive Sync release notes - SharePoint in Microsoft 365 | Microsoft Learn.

Hey Teddie,

Sorry for taking so long to reply! Thank you for your detailed answer. I know this is a user forum, it was the only place I could actually detail my issue to as I couldn't get an actual support option.

So:

That download worked, but for just under 24 hours, and then the App seems to have updated itself. I have the Automatic Updates option turned off, so I dug a little deeper and found that there are some command-line options to disable some daemons, etc.:

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/5347156/how-to-disable-automatic-updates-for-onedrive-on-m

The first option worked here; I was not able to alter the execute permissions as a superuser for the other one.

First option paraphrased, for others experiencing the issue:

  • Delete your existing OneDrive.app from Applications
  • Grab this stable version for MacOS Ventura 13.7.8: https://oneclient.sfx.ms/Mac/Installers/26.032.0217.0003/universal/OneDrive.pkg
  • Install, but do not run OneDrive.app after installation.
  • Launch the Terminal app.
  • In a new terminal, run each of these commands [enter your admin password when asked]:
    • sudo launchctl remove com.microsoft.OneDriveStandaloneUpdater
    • sudo launchctl remove com.microsoft.OneDriveStandaloneUpdaterDaemon
    • sudo launchctl remove com.microsoft.OneDriveUpdaterDaemon
  • After that, run these three commands:
    • sudo rm /Library/LaunchAgents/com.microsoft.OneDriveStandaloneUpdater.plist
    • sudo rm /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.microsoft.OneDriveStandaloneUpdaterDaemon.plist
    • sudo rm /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.microsoft.OneDriveUpdaterDaemon.plist

Now restart and launch OneDrive. I would recommend double-checking that those .plist files have not magically reappeared :)

It has been 36 hours now, and OneDrive is still working fine, no self-update. I will reply here if anything changes.

Thanks for your help, Teddie!
