Sent emails going to the Draft folder in New Outlook

I go to send an email in New Outlook, and it saves a copy of it to my Drafts folder. They only go away if I close and reopen outlook, which I can't do every time I send an email. I have no rules set and I have a stable internet connection. It's been happening for 3 weeks now. I'm using the New Outlook desktop app on Windows 11 Pro, and it happens on multiple computers at home and in the office.

I've looked into all the troubleshooting options from other questions asked here and other places online. Clearing cache, checking for rules, IT made sure the account is set up correctly, etc. Is there anything new available to try?

    Hi Jason,

Thank you for providing such a detailed description of the issue.

Based on what you've shared, the emails are being sent successfully, but a copy remains in the Drafts folder until New Outlook is closed and reopened. Since the behavior is occurring on multiple computers, both at home and in the office, and your IT team has already reviewed the account configuration, this does not appear to be limited to a specific device or Outlook installation.

As you've already worked through many of the common troubleshooting steps, you may also consider the following:

1/ Test whether the same behavior occurs in Outlook on the web

This can help determine whether the issue is specific to the New Outlook desktop application or whether it is affecting the mailbox itself.

    • Sign in to Outlook on the web using the affected account.
    • Send a test email.
    • Check whether the sent message also remains in the Drafts folder.

If the issue does not occur in Outlook on the web, that may help narrow the problem down to the New Outlook client.

2/ Remove and re-add the account in New Outlook

Refreshing the account connection may help if the issue is related to synchronization between the client and mailbox.

    • Open Settings in New Outlook.
    • Go to Accounts > Your accounts.
    • Select Manage next to the affected account.
    • Remove the account.
    • Restart New Outlook.
    • Add the account back and test again.

3/ Ask your IT administrator to contact Microsoft Support

If the issue continues after the above steps, this may require further investigation by Microsoft Support. In this case, the best next step would be to have your IT administrator open a support ticket via the Microsoft 365 admin center. A technical support engineer can then initiate a remote session, review backend settings, and run diagnostics. If needed, they can escalate the case to specialized engineering teams who are well-equipped to perform advanced troubleshooting and provide targeted solutions.

As moderators, our primary goal is to provide helpful guidance and support through general troubleshooting steps. While we don’t have access to internal systems or administrative tools required to resolve account-specific or backend issues, we truly appreciate your understanding of these limitations. We genuinely hope the information we share helps point you in the right direction, and we're always here to assist as much as we can within our scope.

For guidance on how to request support in the admin center, please share this with your IT admin: Get support - Microsoft 365 admin.

I hope the information helps guide you to the next steps. Please feel free to share any additional details if you need further assistance.
