MULTI-FACTOR AUTHENTICATION

I have a work/business account, and when I lost my phone where I installed and registered the MFA thing, I got logged out of my Microsoft Accounts (Teams, Outlook, etc.) I installed the Authenticator app on my new device, but every time I log in through my desktop or mobile device, it doesn't go through, and no codes or other sign-in options work. Our Office Admin revoked my initial registration to see if that would solve the issue, but it still hasn't. I am completely locked out. I have not been able to get in touch with a live person through their IVR for help. Does anyone know how to resolve this? Many thanks!

    Dear Elrod,

Good day, and thank you for reaching out to the Q&A Forum.

I'm truly sorry to hear that you are completely locked out of your work account after losing your phone. As a forum moderator, I genuinely wish I could directly access your account or delve into the backend systems to diagnose and fix this for you. Unfortunately, my role here is limited to providing general guidance and solutions that can be applied by users. You mentioned that your Office Admin already revoked your initial registration. It is worth confirming with them whether they performed all three of the following actions, as sometimes only one is done and the stale session or token remains:

Require re-register MFA, which deactivates your existing authentication methods (phone numbers, Microsoft Authenticator apps, and software OATH tokens) and prompts you to set up a new method the next time you sign in.

Revoke sessions, which invalidates your refresh tokens and forces reauthentication across all active sessions and applications.

Reset password, which assigns a temporary password you must change on the next sign-in.

Your admin can perform these from the Microsoft Entra admin center. Doing all three together (rather than just one) often resolves cases where a partial reset leaves the old registration still partially cached.

For reference: Manage authentication methods for Microsoft Entra multifactor authentication - Microsoft Entra ID
If the full reset sequence has been done and you are still locked out, this may point to a Conditional Access policy or a device compliance requirement blocking your sign-in, rather than an MFA registration problem. Ask your admin to check the Microsoft Entra sign-in logs for your account, which will show the exact failure reason and any policy that is blocking the sign-in.

If the admin cannot identify the cause from the sign-in logs, they should open a service request with Microsoft Support from the Microsoft 365 Admin Center, as they will have full admin access and can escalate on your behalf. This is a much faster path than trying to reach a live agent through the IVR yourself, since you cannot sign in. For detailed instructions on how to get support, please refer to Get support - Microsoft 365 admin.

I hope this information is helpful and provides you with a clear path forward. Please know that even though I cannot directly intervene, pointing you toward the correct, specialized support is genuinely the most effective help I can offer from my position. Thank you for your patience and understanding. Please let me know if you need anything else.
