Be careful ... those may be scams waiting for your click. Don't do it.

This usually happens when Microsoft 365 or Office apps have not fully refreshed the subscription and billing status yet, even though the payment method was already updated.

Common causes supported by Microsoft guidance:

    1. The subscription status has not fully synced yet
Payment status can take time to propagate across services. One accepted Microsoft Q&A answer notes it can take up to 24 hours for payment status to fully sync.
    2. There is still a payment issue or outstanding balance on the account
In Office, the notification is often triggered by a subscription payment problem, such as an expired or canceled card. Check whether the subscription shows as active on the Services & subscriptions page and whether the payment method shows an error on the Payment options page.
    3. The Office app is using stale account or license information
If the subscription is active online but the app still shows the warning, refresh the app’s sign-in state:
      • Open an Office app like Word or Excel.
      • Go to File > Account and use Update License if available.
      • If the notice remains, sign out of Office in the app, close it, reopen it, and sign back in.
      • Restarting the device after signing out can also help refresh the license state.
    4. The subscription may not actually be active yet in some cases
If the subscription was renewed using a retail box, card, or email receipt flow, the subscription does not start until the product key is redeemed or the renewal link is completed.

    What to check:

    • Go to Services & subscriptions and confirm Microsoft 365 shows Active with no payment alerts.
    • Go to Payment options and confirm the payment method does not show an error.
    • Make sure the Office app is signed in with the same Microsoft account that owns the subscription.
    • If the payment was just updated, allow up to 24 hours for sync.
    • If the subscription is active and the notice continues after signing out/in and refreshing the license, contact Microsoft Support.
