Intermittent teams image issue

Images displayed on Teams will fail to show up in chats between users.

The issue is intermittent, so you may click on a image and it will load up initially but if you close it a few times or more, you will find either on the 3rd, 5th or 7th attempt to open the file, it will fail to open and displays a blank screen (attached a screenshot - please see this attached to the ticket).

If I click on another chat the display will return and I would have to go back to the original chat and try and reload the image and hope that it doesn't go blank.

In order to troubleshoot the following steps have been carried out:

1) Restart my machine and retry - same issue.
2) Sign out from Teams and close Teams and reload the application - same issue.
3) Check for updates - same issue.
4) Uninstall and reinstall teams - same issue.
5) Closed Teams and cleared the teams cache from %appdata%/Microsoft/Teams - same issue.
6) Ticket the option for Disable GPU hardware acceleration (requires restarting Teams), restarted Teams - same issue.
7) Tried to change file open preference setting to desktop app - same issue

I'm able to replicate this issue across another machine and I've experienced this issue on following versions of teams: 1.4.00.32167 (64-bit) 1.4.00.29469 (64-bit)

Please can I request some assistance?

This is a very common issue experienced by many people. I am surprised that MSFT is on here asking for additional info to reproduce.

Steps to reproduce: Use Microsoft Teams

Popping the chat into it's own window does not help. Navigating to a different chat and then coming back sometimes helps, but not always.

The suggestion above to first right-click the image before left-clicking it is golden. Thank you @Ken Samuel Kyllingmark !

    Hi @IBN

    Welcome to Q&A forum!

Could you reproduce this problem in Teams web client?

Considering your problem is intermittent. It is difficult for us to locate where is the problem come from. So I did a test in our environment but it seems there is no issue in our client. The version is 1.4.00.32118 (64-bit)-E. It was last updated on 11/19/2021.

To troubleshot this problem, we recommend you contact your Teams admin and check the health status of Microsoft Teams in Office 365 admin center. > Health > Service health.

My whole team has this issue. It is so very frustrating, and the amount of time it has persisted is astonishing. It all started with the horrible update around October which seriously screwed up markdown support in chats.

Many users in our org are experiencing this, but not all, though those affected have been experiencing it for at least several weeks if not longer.. We happen to be all Macs and deal heavily with images so this is affecting our team quite heavily.

same issue in our org, lots of users facing it on Windows.
version on my side: You have Microsoft Teams Version 1.4.00.35564 (64-bit). It was last updated on 1/25/2022.

I tried to use the preview version and checked the dom

    when the image can open:

when not showing, no above dom (no client-side javascript error)
