Do you need to Reapply MIP labels after editing permission configurations

I am working on some basic labels, and I was wondering: if I add user permissions after the label has been applied to a document, do I need to reapply the label for the document permissions to change?

So for example:

  1. I create a label that gives HR team access only through encryption
  2. I apply the label to document A.
  3. I edit the label to give HR AND Finance Access
  4. DO I NEED TO REAPPLY THE LABEL?

    Hi @Tanner Diercks

If the document is protected by a Label or Template, you can change the Usage Rights, Groups, and add new Users to existing Groups without needing re-applying the Label to the Document - There may be a short delay before the new permissions are active. If the document was protected by custom permissions then you'll need to re-apply the protection again.

To check if the document was protected by a Template or Custom Permission, you can use a PowerShell Get-AIPFileStatus PowerShell cmdlet.
