We're excited to announce the next steps in bringing together the Microsoft Support Community and Microsoft Q&A. Over the next few months, we’ll migrate all top content to Q&A and sunset the Microsoft Support Community. This transformation will streamline how you find, ask, and answer questions about Microsoft technologies. By consolidating these platforms, we’re simplifying the support journey and ensuring a more consistent and intuitive experience.
This means faster access to relevant answers, a single destination for community-driven support, and a more cohesive experience across Microsoft’s learning and support ecosystems. Whether you're a home user looking for guidance on Windows, a developer troubleshooting an API, or an IT admin seeking deployment guidance, the unified Q&A platform is built to help you find trusted answers more efficiently and contribute to a vibrant, expert-led community.
FAQ
Do I have to make a new profile to use Microsoft Q&A?
Profiles cannot be migrated over to Microsoft Q&A, so creating a Microsoft Learn Profile is required. This guide walks you through the steps to set up your profile, update your display name, public profile URL, manage email preferences, profile privacy settings, and other preferences.
What is going to happen to the content on the Microsoft Support Community?
The migration process will be conducted in multiple phases. Threads selected for migration will first be placed in a locked state on the Microsoft Support Community. They will then be migrated to Microsoft Q&A, where they will also remain locked.
I'm a moderator in the Microsoft Support Community, how can I be a moderator on Microsoft Q&A?
Moderators from the Microsoft Support Community are invited to continue being moderators on Microsoft Q&A. Follow the process described in the Microsoft Q&A moderators article.
I was an active participant in the Microsoft Support Community, how will my contributions carry over to Microsoft Q&A??
We are grateful for the dedication of community members from the Microsoft Support Community. Those with the most impactful engagement have been recognized with the Microsoft Answers Contributor badge — now showcased on their Learn profiles as a reflection of their valuable support and participation.
What will happen to the tagging experience?
Microsoft Q&A previously offered a “free form” tagging experience that allowed question authors to assign up to five tags as needed. The new tagging approach introduces a hierarchical structure designed to improve question routing to subject matter experts. Authors now select tags through up to four nested levels, creating a single combined hierarchical tag that ensures each question is accurately categorized and directed to the appropriate experts for response.
What will happen to questions using the old tagging experience?
Existing questions using the “free form” tagging experience will persist. Making edits to these questions will require using the new hierarchical tagging system.
