hyper-v snapshot merge taking too long on server 2019

I am having issues with snapshots merging on my hyper-v cluster. When merging occurs even for snapshots that are 1gb or slightly larger it can take up to 6 hours just to complete merging. I am using Qnap storage for my server 2019 cluster.
