The Citation dashboard in Microsoft Clarity AI Visibility shows how your content is referenced in AI-generated answers.
AI answers are built by retrieving content from across the web, evaluating its relevance and authority, and citing the most trusted sources. This dashboard makes that process measurable by showing which of your pages are selected as sources, how often they're cited, and how your domain compares to competitors across the same queries.
The Citations dashboard helps users understand:
• How visible their content is in AI-generated answers by showing how often their pages are cited and how their visibility changes over time.
• Which content and topics perform best by identifying the pages and queries that AI systems rely on when generating responses.
• How AI contributes to their business by measuring competitive presence (Share of authority) and the traffic AI assistants drive to their website.
Use this dashboard to track citation activity, identify coverage gaps, and improve your visibility across AI-driven discovery.
Note
The Citation dashboard tracks citation activity in AI-generated answers only. It does not measure traditional search rankings, impressions, or click-through rates. Instead, it captures a new layer of influence—one that occurs before a user visits your site, inside the AI experience itself.
Domain Verification
Before you can view citation data, a project administrator verifies ownership of the domain associated with the project. Project administrators can verify a domain in one of the following ways:
- Install the Microsoft Clarity tracking code on the website.
- Connect the domain through Google Search Console (GSC).
- Connect the domain through Bing Webmaster Tools (BWT).
When you choose GSC or BWT, you're redirected to the selected platform to sign in and select your domain. After the platform confirms domain ownership, verification is typically completed automatically, and the Citation dashboard becomes available. Once verification is complete, you can start exploring how your content is cited in AI-generated answers.
Tip
Domain verification is a one-time setup per domain and only needs to be completed by a project administrator.
Metrics overview
The following metrics provide visibility into your site's citation performance, competitive presence, and the content that AI systems rely on when generating answers:
- Page citations: This metric helps identify which content is most frequently cited.
- Share of authority: A higher value indicates stronger visibility and authority in AI-generated answers.
- AI referral traffic: Shows you how much traffic AI-generated experiences are driving to your website.
- Grounding queries: This reveal how AI models interpret, categorize, and discover your content, helping you optimize it for AI retrieval.
- My cited pages: Use this view to identify your highest-performing content and opportunities to improve pages that are cited less frequently.

To view the Citation dashboard, select AI Visibility -> Citation from the dropdown menu.
