Monitor an agent (preview)

[This article is prerelease documentation and is subject to change.]

The Monitor tab in the new agent experience gives you a view of your agent's recent activity, including completed tasks and files the agent accessed or used.

Note

This article reflects the new agent experience in Microsoft Copilot Studio, which is currently available as a production-ready preview. Learn about the two experiences in Classic vs. new agent experience.

  • Production-ready previews are subject to supplemental terms of use.
  • Some capabilities available in the classic experience aren't yet available in the new experience.
  • Agents created in the new experience can't be converted to the classic experience.

About the Monitor tab

Note

The Monitor tab is unavailable until you publish your agent. To make it available, select Publish on the Build tab.

The Monitor tab shows:

  • Recent tasks: A list of tasks the agent has completed or attempted, with status, timestamps, and the context in which the task ran.
  • Files: Files that the agent accessed or used during its interactions, organized by file type with filtering options.

This view is particularly useful for agents that take autonomous actions—such as sending emails, updating records, or interacting with Microsoft 365 services—where you want visibility into what the agent did.

Review recent tasks

  1. Open your agent in Copilot Studio.

  2. Select the Monitor tab.

  3. In the Recent tasks section, review the list of tasks. Each task shows:

    • Status: Whether the task completed successfully, failed, or is in progress.
    • Task description: A summary of what the agent was asked to do or did.
    • Last updated: When the task was last updated.
    • Location: The channel or surface where the task originated.
  4. Select a task to view more details about how the agent executed it.

Review files

  1. On the Monitor tab, scroll to the Files section.

  2. Use the file type filters (such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Notes) to narrow the list.

  3. Select a file to see details about when it was accessed and by whom.

Analytics and long-term monitoring

The Monitor tab provides a near-real-time view of recent activity. For long-term analytics, conversation metrics, and performance trends, use the analytics features in the classic analytics section of Copilot Studio.

See Key concepts for analytics for an overview of available analytics capabilities.
