The following table shows improvements to personal applications.

Pocket Outlook Object Model API Improvements

(Pocket PC and Smartphone)

Provides a developer with the capability to write an application that accesses the Contacts database on the device, for example, Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) clients, or line of business applications like sales force automation. Provides an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) with functionality that shows the incoming caller name on a second display.
Contacts Summary Card User Interface Improvements

(Pocket PC and Smartphone)

Provides an end user with the capability to access the contact summary card to view contact information or start communication. Provides additional access to the summary card by tapping a recipient in Inbox or call history.

Continues support for contact methods available in Windows Mobile 2003, for example, phone, e-mail, and SMS. Adds support in Windows Mobile Version 5.0 for an end user to send MMS and initiate instant messaging chats.

Per-contact Ring Tones

(Pocket PC Only)

Provides an end user with the capability to assign specific ring tones to specific people. When the phone rings, the ring tone associated with the caller plays.
Managed Access to the Pocket Outlook Object Model API

(Pocket PC and Smartphone)

Provides the Microsoft.WindowsMobile.PocketOutlook namespace as a managed class library to manipulate and extend the Outlook Mobile personal information management (PIM) system, the contents of the data store, and PIM item processing services.
Pictures Browse View

(Pocket PC and Smartphone)

Provides an end user with the capability to browse through pictures on a Windows Mobile–based device. Pictures can be photos taken with a built-in camera or copied to the device from the desktop computer.
Image Capture View

(Pocket PC and Smartphone)

Provides an end user with the capability to take a photo by using an attached or integrated camera.
Video Capture View

(Pocket PC and Smartphone)

Provides an end user with the capability to take video by using an attached or integrated camera. By default, the application records video in WMV format. The original equipment manufacturer (OEM) can plug in a third-party audio/video encoder, for example, an MPEG4 or H.263/AMR encoder.
Edit Picture View

(Pocket PC and Smartphone)

Provides an end user with the capability to edit a picture before sending the picture to someone else. Editing capabilities include cropping, rotating, and auto-brightness and contrast adjusting.
Picture Picker

(Pocket PC and Smartphone)

Provides an end user with the capability to select a picture, including a picture from a non-Microsoft application, for a contact from within the Contacts application. An MMS application can also use this capability.
Video Picker

(Pocket PC and Smartphone)

Provides an end user with the capability to select a video from within the user interface for e-mail and MMS. This capability supports end-to-end video messaging.
List View Contacts Extensibility

(Pocket PC and Smartphone)

Provides a service provider with the capability to draw a graphic element next to the name of a contact in list view by using an owner-list draw API for a custom property. With this capability, a graphic element can represent presence in the Contacts list view.
One-handed Dialing from Contacts

(Pocket PC Only)

Provides an end user with the capability to find and dial a contact with one hand. Improves the Summary Card and soft keys in all personal information manager (PIM) applications. Provides a two-line display in list view of Contacts, which on Pocket PC shows the full name and communication method. Provides an end user with the capability to call directly from list view by selecting the contact in list view, pressing right or left to choose the communication method, and then pressing the talk button to call.
Menu Extensibility in Pictures and Camera

(Pocket PC and Smartphone)

Provides the ability to extend the menu in the Pictures and Camera applications. With menu extensibility, an application developer or original equipment manufacturer (OEM) can add code that, for example, uploads a picture to a service.
Native and Managed Camera API

(Pocket PC and Smartphone)

Provides a developer with the capability to use either native or managed code to interact with the user interface for taking a picture or video.
Address Parser for Contacts

(Pocket PC Only)

Provides an end user with the capability to enter an address in a single field in Contacts. The parser breaks up the address into different fields. Address parsing improvements are primarily for East Asian and European addresses.
Slideshow View for Pictures

(Pocket PC and Smartphone)

Provides an end user with the capability to display all pictures in a folder one after another without manually switching between pictures.
Contact Searching Improvements

(Pocket PC Only)

Provides an end user with the capability to enter text strings in the Contacts search field, including full names, e-mail address, and phone numbers.
Contact Chooser Control Improvements

(Pocket PC Only)

Provides the ChooseContact function. Improves the contact chooser control by easing the process of inviting attendees to meetings or adding recipients to messages.
File-based Digital Rights Management Integration with Pictures Album Application

(Smartphone Only)

Provides a picture browse view and picker that respects rights associated with content that is protected by file-based digital rights management (FDRM). Rights include Forward Lock, Combined Delivery, and Separate Delivery.
File-based Digital Rights Management Integration with Contacts Application

(Smartphone Only)

Provides a Contacts application that respects rights associated with content that is protected by file-based digital rights management (FDRM). Rights include Forward Lock, Combined Delivery, and Separate Delivery that relate to assigned ring tones.
SIM Contacts Integration with Contacts Application

(Pocket PC Only)

Provides an end user with the capability to view, from with the Contacts application, phonebook entries from a subscriber identification module (SIM).
Soft Keys in PIM Applications

(Pocket PC and Smartphone)

Provides soft keys to improve one-handed navigation in all personal information manager (PIM) applications.
Take Pictures and Videos

(Pocket PC and Smartphone)

Provides the Camera Capture dialog box as a shell function through which an end user can take pictures and video and set related parameters.
