With Microsoft Exchange Server 2007, you create a Unified Messaging (UM) mailbox policy to apply a common set of policies or security settings to a collection of UM-enabled mailboxes. After you deploy Unified Messaging in your Exchange 2007 organization, you may have to create and configure additional UM mailbox policies or modify existing UM mailbox policies. This topic discusses Exchange 2007 Unified Messaging (UM) mailbox policies and how UM mailbox policies can be managed in your Exchange 2007 organization.

Managing UM Mailbox Policies

After you install the Unified Messaging server role on a computer that is running Exchange 2007 and are deploying Exchange 2007 Unified Messaging on your network, you may have to create, configure, and manage Exchange 2007 Unified Messaging mailbox policies.

You can manage Exchange 2007 Unified Messaging mailbox policies by using the Exchange Management Console and the Exchange Management Shell. Using the Exchange Management Console and the Exchange Management Shell enables you to administer and configure specific settings for UM mailbox policies.
