Summary
You can now license Microsoft 365 and AI services at scale, verify that a license assignment reaches everyone it should, and configure billing for AI capabilities that don't fit a standard per-user model.
What you learned
- Microsoft 365 licenses bundle individual service plans that you can enable or disable independently, and you can assign a license directly to a user or to a group whose direct members inherit it automatically.
- Group-based licensing processes direct members only, so verifying an assignment—through the License details page, the Errors & issues tab, and group membership—catches nested-group gaps, unset usage locations, seat shortages, and disabled service plans before they reach a support ticket.
- Microsoft 365 Copilot, Copilot Chat, Copilot Studio, and Agent 365 each fit a different AI usage pattern, from everyday in-app use to occasional chat, agent-building pilots, and governance for autonomous agents at scale.
- Microsoft 365 billing flows from a billing account through one or more billing profiles to the invoices they generate, with self-service purchases and consumption-based AI charges both appearing as charges on that same structure.
- Consumption-based AI services are metered in Copilot Credits, and Relecloud can fund those credits through a Copilot credit policy (prepaid capacity), a pay-as-you-go billing policy (metered to Azure), or both—credits from the prepaid policy are consumed first, with pay-as-you-go as automatic overage.
- Both credit policies and pay-as-you-go billing policies are scoped to a specific group and only take effect once you connect them to a metered AI service such as Copilot Chat or SharePoint agents, all from the Copilot > Billing & usage page in the Microsoft 365 admin center.
