Anda dapat menerapkan atribut ini ke rakitan, meskipun Tlbimp.exe (Type Library Importer) biasanya menerapkannya untuk Anda saat pustaka jenis.

Penggunaan utama atribut adalah untuk menangkap sumber asli informasi jenis. Misalnya, Anda dapat mengimpor A.tlb sebagai rakitan interop yang disebut A.dll dan memiliki perakitan B.dll referensi A.dll. Saat Anda mengekspor B.dll ke B.tlb, atribut ini menyebabkan referensi dalam B.tlb yang menunjuk ke A.dll untuk mengarahkan sebagai gantinya ke A.tlb.
