Supply Chain Management enables organizations to consolidate logistics operations into one legal entity that manages warehousing, inventory, and transportation for multiple legal entities. For example, you might have sales offices in several states or countries that share a single central department for warehousing, inventory, and deliveries. This setup makes large organizations more efficient by letting each legal entity focus on the business areas where it excels.

Warehouse management-only mode lets you create a legal entity in Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management that manages warehousing and logistics operations for other Supply Chain Management legal entities. This functionality builds on the existing ability of warehouse management-only mode to manage warehousing operations for external ERP systems.

Warehouse management-only mode processes purchase and sales orders with new, lightweight source documents for inbound and outbound shipment orders. These documents focus on warehouse management and can replace multiple types of documents that legal entities previously exchanged, such as sales orders, purchase orders, and transfer orders.

The system uses a new owner inventory dimension to track ownership of catalog items that multiple legal entities share.

This functionality extends the capabilities of the Operate warehouses connected to external order management systems feature that we announced in late 2023. With this functionality, your logistics operations can manage both internal and external warehouse processes in the same warehouse management system and physical locations.
