Workspaces are available in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance, and operations are the single point of entry into the application. In workspaces, you can complete assigned tasks, monitor specific reports, and manage your daily responsibilities. Typically, the workspaces that you would use during the order to cash process are Sales order processing and inquiry, Sales return processing, Customer invoicing, and Customer payments.

Sales order processing and inquiry

To access the Sales order processing and inquiry workspace, you can go to the Workspaces area in the navigation pane from your home screen, or you can go to Sales and marketing > Workspaces > Sales order processing and inquiry. This workspace provides a summary of unconfirmed sales orders, all sales orders, orders on hold, confirmed orders, and more. On this workspace, you can create a new sales order, sales quotation, return order, or customer by selecting New on the Action Pane. By expanding the Orders and favorites area, you can view more specific details that pertain to sales order processing and inquiries.

For example, by selecting the Delayed order lines tab, you can view all sales orders with delayed order lines along with the Item number, Customer, and Requested ship date.

Sales return processing

Similar to the Sales order processing and inquiry workspace, you can access the Sales return processing workspace on the home screen through the Workspaces area in the navigation pane, or you can go to Sales and marketing > Workspaces > Sales return processing. In this workspace, you can view information that pertains to sales returns, including Created, Expired, All return orders, and more. Additionally, you can create a new Sales order or Return order by selecting New on the Action Pane.

Customer invoicing

By going to Accounts receivable > Workspaces > Customer invoicing, you can view information on customer invoices.

Summaries on the following customer invoice categories are available with the option to drill into those specific pages by selecting the tile:

  • Shipped but not invoiced sales orders

  • Sales orders on hold

  • Free text invoices assigned to me

  • Unposted free text invoices

  • Unposted recurring invoice groups

You can use the New free text invoice option on the Action Pane to create a new free text invoice from the workspace.

Customer payments

Go to Accounts receivable > Workspaces to access the Customer payments workspace. In this workspace, you can select Record customer payment and view information that pertains to payment journals, customers, invoices, and more. You can generate lists of specific customers with Invoices past due and Payments not settled by expanding the Customer transactions FastTab.
