Exercise - Return items in Dynamics 365 Business Central

This exercise is written to use the Cronus sample company from the US version of Business Central. You might need to make adjustments to the steps if you use the sample company from your country or region.

Scenario - Process a customer return

You are the order processor. A representative from customer 30000 -- School of Fine Art calls and says that two delivered units of item 1960-S are damaged.

You and the customer's representative agree to return the complete quantity to your company, and to immediately ship a replacement of the same quantity to the customer. The representative provides a reference number to the customer's return document, R-0113.

Tasks

  1. Create the sales return order to customer 30000 with the customer reference number R-0113.

  2. Add a replacement line for two units of item 1960-S, and then create and post the replacement sales order.

  3. Receive and invoice the Sales Return Order.

Steps - Create the Sales Return Order to customer 30000 with customer reference number R-0113

  1. Select the Search for Page icon in the top-right corner of the page, enter sales return orders, and then choose the related link.

  2. Select New.

  3. On the General FastTab, in the Customer Name field, enter "30000".

  4. In the External Document No. field, enter "R-0113".

  5. Select Process, and then Get Posted Document Lines to Reverse.

  6. In the Document Type filter field, select Posted Invoices.

  7. Select the line for item 1960-S and invoice number 103198, and then select OK.

Steps - Add a replacement line for two units of item 1960-S. Create and post the replacement sales order

  1. On a new line, in the Type field, select Item.

  2. In the No. field, enter "1960-S".

  3. In the Quantity field, enter "-2".

  4. Select Actions, Functions, and then Move Negative Lines.

  5. Under the Return Order & Credit Memo heading, in the To Document Type field, select Order, and then select OK.

  6. Select Yes to view the created document.

  7. On the sales order, select Posting, and then select Post.

  8. Select OK to ship and invoice the order.

Steps - Receive and invoice the sales return order

  1. Return to the sales return order.

  2. Select OK.
