I have a new subscription of MS 365 for 5 machines, and I want to use that. However 1 machine, 2017 iMac will only upgrade to Ventura 13.7.8. How can I use MS 365 on it, in other words can I get a older version just for this machine?

Yes, Microsoft 365 can be used on the 2017 iMac running macOS Ventura 13.7.8 by installing the most recent Office for Mac version that still supports Ventura.

Key points based on similar scenarios in the context:

    1. A current Microsoft 365 subscription can activate older Office for Mac builds that are compatible with older macOS versions. The subscription does not force the newest macOS-only build; it allows activation of the last supported build for that OS.
    2. For older Macs, the installer provided will be the last version that runs on that macOS. For example, users on Monterey are directed to install version 16.88; for Ventura, a similar “most recent Office you can run” approach applies.
    3. For Macs that cannot move beyond a certain OS (like Ventura 13.7.8), guidance is to follow the “Most Recent Office You Can Run – Best Practices” approach: download and install the compatible Office for Mac build for that OS, then sign in with the active Microsoft 365 subscription to activate it.

Practical outcome for the 2017 iMac:

    • Keep the iMac on Ventura 13.7.8.
    • Install Office for Mac using the standard Microsoft 365 download flow; the installer will provide the last version that supports Ventura.
    • Sign in with the Microsoft 365 subscription account on that Mac to activate Office.

This allows using Microsoft 365 on that machine with an older Office build, while newer machines can use the latest builds.
