The most likely cause of a recurring $25.00 monthly charge from Microsoft is an active subscription or purchase tied to a Microsoft account or payment method that is not immediately visible in the current Subscriptions view.

Use these steps to identify the charge and then stop it if needed:

    1. Go to the Manage your payments page of the Microsoft account dashboard and look up the charge:
      • Sign in with the Microsoft account that uses the card being charged.
      • Open the Manage your payments page and locate the $25.00 transaction.
      • Select Investigate next to the charge. This tool shows whether it is:
        • A Microsoft subscription with recurring billing enabled,
        • A purchase made by a family member using the same card,
        • A previously declined charge that was retried,
        • A pre-order or split order that has now shipped,
        • Or an in-app purchase from an app, game, or Office.
    2. Check for other subscriptions or accounts:
      • In addition to the visible Microsoft 365 Family subscription, there may be another subscription (for example, a different Microsoft 365 plan or another service) under the same or a different Microsoft account that uses the same card.
      • Make sure to sign out and sign back in with any other Microsoft email addresses that might be associated with the card and check Services & subscriptions for each account.
    3. If the charge is an unwanted subscription:
      • Go to Services & subscriptions for the account where the charge appears.
      • If there is an active subscription with recurring billing turned on, turn off recurring billing or cancel it following the on-screen options.
      • If cancellation is successful, future monthly $25.00 charges for that subscription will stop.
    4. If the charge is not recognized even after using Manage your payments:
      • Use the billing charge troubleshooter linked from How to investigate a billing charge from Microsoft to guide through additional checks.
      • If still unresolved, contact Microsoft Support using the Get Help / Contact support flow described in the Q&A references (choose billing or subscription as the category) and provide details of the charge so an agent can review it.
    5. If Microsoft and the tools above cannot locate the charge under any Microsoft account:
      • The Q&A guidance indicates that in such cases the bank or card issuer should be contacted to dispute the transaction as a potentially fraudulent or misapplied charge. The bank can also advise on options that do not necessarily require closing the entire account, such as blocking specific merchants or issuing a replacement card.

These steps allow identifying what the $25.00 monthly charge is for, stopping it if it is an unwanted subscription, or escalating either to Microsoft Support or the bank if it cannot be matched to any Microsoft account.
