Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
If the supervisor cannot approve sign-ins with Microsoft Authenticator and has no other working MFA method, the Microsoft 365 tenant admin must reset the supervisor’s MFA so it can be set up again.
Use the following options depending on who has admin access:
- If there is another global admin in the tenant
- Another global admin signs in to the Microsoft Entra admin center.
- Go to Users → All users → [select the supervisor] → Authentication methods.
- Use Require re-register multifactor authentication to reset the supervisor’s MFA.
- The supervisor then signs in again and will be prompted to set up Microsoft Authenticator (and/or other methods) from scratch.
- If the supervisor is the only admin and is locked out
- This is a tenant lockout scenario. The only supported path is to involve Microsoft’s Data Protection team via a support ticket.
- Call the appropriate Microsoft customer service phone number and have a support ticket opened for a locked-out global admin. The Data Protection team will verify identity and help restore access so MFA can be re-registered.
- For end users (non-admins) with the same problem
- The user must contact the organization’s Microsoft 365/Entra admin and ask them to reset the user’s MFA (Require re-register multifactor authentication) so the user can configure new methods.
Until MFA is reset by an admin or by Microsoft support (Data Protection team), the supervisor will not be able to add members or perform other admin actions.
