Revolut debit card is declined

Hi,

I want to sign up for an Azure subscription with my Revolut VISA debit card but I am getting rejected. The error message states

Sorry, we can't accept pre-paid cards. Please try another payment method.

But the card is not pre-paid. It is a regular physical (not virtual!) debit card. What's the catch?

I think this is similar to "IBAN Discrimination" https://blog.revolut.com/fighting-against-iban-discrimination/

I don't think 'Try another card' is an acceptable answer, what if individuals do not have an alternative. As the other posters have mentioned this is not a pre-paid card and no different to any other card linked to a valid bank account.

The problem still hasn't been solved. :/ This is actually illegal in the EU on the part of Microsoft. Article 9 of the SEPA Regulation states that companies have to accept all registered banks in the SEPA area.

This is still an issue in November 2023. Live chat agent was not able to help, and didn't seem aware of the issues with Revolut cards.
This thread suggests that Microsoft should update their BIN database:

As a potential Azure subscriber, this isn't a good look. As others have mentioned I guess I will have to try the competition instead.

This is incredibly frustrating, how can we not use a major bank's VISA card? AWS accepts it no problem, this forces us to choose Amazon over Microsoft.

June 2024, no changes:

And I don't have any other alternatives for the payment. Unless, MS starts to accept Pasmo or Suica :)

Look at the comment date of this. The "issue" might as well now be known as a feature.

Move to another cloud - AWS and Google have no issue with Revolut, the same goes for just about anyone else I can think of.

I agree about using other solutions (I already have both AWS and Google Cloud accounts). The only reason I wanted to use Azure was to learn it since a few businesses require this skill.

The issue still hasn't been solved. I tried 6 months ago and I'm trying now and it's the same issue. I don't have an alternative credit card as Revolut is the main bank I use and I'm not using a pre-paid card

Hi,

For billing and setup you can raise a support case or call up the service desk

Usually I had issues with Revolut cards for online transactions, might not be supported try another card if you have?

Sadly, if this is not fixed within a few days I'll try AWS.

Hi, This is still an ongoing issue for Revolut Debit Cards (Physical and Virtual) I don't have other secure methods of payment so I really hope they can fix this.

I was having the same issue again in the Azure portal, under Cost Management > Payment Method settings. I re-opened my last ticket with Microsoft and they've managed to resolve it for me again. Do you guys still have the issue?

Obviously nobody from Microsoft is reading or responding to this thread. Unless you absolutely need to run a Windows VM for your website (which very few people need to do these days) , I suggest you just use Google Cloud or Amazon AWS. I'm on both with my Revolut business banking and there has never been any issue with either. Going to unsubscribe from this question now.

prepaid is idem to debit card. you cannot get red/borrow , payments will be simply declined by revolute if your balance is less than the transaction amount.
