Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
To request a refund for a Microsoft 365 subscription that was charged after a free trial, cancellation must be completed first, and then refund eligibility is determined automatically based on Microsoft’s policies and the country of purchase.
Follow these steps:
- Cancel the Microsoft 365 subscription
- Go to https://account.microsoft.com/services/microsoft365 and sign in with the same Microsoft account that was used to start the trial and that was charged.
- Find the Microsoft 365 subscription and select Manage.
- If instead of Manage there is Turn on recurring billing, the subscription is already set to expire and will not be charged again; in that case, no further cancellation is needed.
- On the next page, select Cancel (it may appear as Upgrade or Cancel).
- How refund eligibility works
- For Microsoft 365 Basic, Personal, Family, or Premium subscriptions purchased from Microsoft, refund eligibility is checked after cancellation.
- Not all cancellations result in a refund.
- In some countries, canceling may entitle to a prorated refund depending on subscription length and renewal status. These include Canada, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Israel, Korea, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, and Turkey. Details are in the “Countries with prorated refunds for Microsoft subscriptions” article linked from the refund help page.
- If the subscription was purchased through a mobile app store
- If the Microsoft 365 subscription was started and billed via Google Play or the Apple App Store, cancellation and any refund must be handled by those stores:
- For Google Play purchases, see Learn about Google Play refund policies.
- For Apple App Store purchases, request a refund from Apple support.
- If the Microsoft 365 subscription was started and billed via Google Play or the Apple App Store, cancellation and any refund must be handled by those stores:
- If the charge is not recognized or there are issues
- If the charge does not appear as expected or there are problems with the online flow, contact Microsoft Support for billing assistance:
- Go to Contact Microsoft Support, describe the billing issue, select Get Help, then choose Contact Support to reach a support agent (chat or callback, depending on availability).
- If the charge does not appear as expected or there are problems with the online flow, contact Microsoft Support for billing assistance:
After cancellation is completed, the system will determine automatically whether a refund is issued based on the subscription type, region, and timing of the cancellation relative to the charge.
