Hello, I'm Sophia and I've got two main problems going on currently. (Laptop details will be pasted below the main issues)

Problem #1 : My Minecraft Bedrock Edition (and seemingly other apps as well) cannot be updated.

  • Whenever I click the "Install" button, it downloads a few MBs for a short period of time (a few seconds, give or take). After that, it shows an error message which tells me to open the Microsoft Store for more details.
  • When I open the Microsoft Store to check my download process, it says that "Something Went Wrong" with an error code 0x80073cf9. When I click retry, it downloads a few yet again, then proceeds to consistently put the Minecraft download on "Queue" status and doesn't allow it to continue its download.
  • The thing is, it seems to be prioritizing another app with the name "WindowsAppRuntime 1.8", or something along the line. Here comes another problem; The prioritized app appears to be struck with the same problem as well. Every time I attempt to "Retry" its download, it also keeps giving the "Something Went Wrong" with the same error code after a few seconds of the downloading process. After that, I tried to repair both the Minecraft Launcher and Microsoft Store.
  • At this point, I've restarted my laptop and repeated the repair strat multiple times already. So to no avail, I thought searching the internet for a viable solution would help me out, since past experiences do tell so. Though I had high hopes, its been two days of trying everything. Reddit, Microsoft Q&A articles, YouTube videos, Minecraft Help, and so on, yet the problem still persists.
  • To list the methods I've tried (I'll include some links to be more specific), here :

( note: Forgive me if this list doesn't specify much, but I will say that I've tried all of these, even the threads in the comment section, leading to more links with even more methods and suggestions. )

Having tried these suggestions--it unfortunately lead to giving me another problem to worry about.

Problem #2 : Microsoft Store can no longer be opened.

An arduous journey indeed, but please do stay with me here.

To start, I will admit that as of now, it has been the second time I face this problem.

First encounter of said problem :

  • It began with one of the methods that included the user to repair and reset Microsoft Store, and so I followed. After restarting my device, I then went on to open my MS store. As I try to open it, I was met with nothing. I could no longer open it nor could I repair or restart it anymore; It was not visible in the "Apps & Features" in my settings.
  • So then I search online for any possible solutions. Scrolling for a few minutes, I click on a YouTube video tutorial on how to fix a "Missing" MS Store that's been uploaded a few months ago. To summarize, it tells the user to Windows Key + R and type in services.msc to set Microsoft Store Install Service to "Automatic". Though out of hope, surprisingly, it did work and I was able to open my MS Store again, albeit it still does not fix the issue with updating apps.
  • Coming on to the next time I make this mistake again, it is as well caused by one of the methods I was simply trying to follow once again. Although in this attempt, I didn't think that it would be the same as last time, since I've already fixed the settings. This time, I tried to download it manually but it results in being stuck on the "Checking for Requirements" text. I spent the last few hours browsing articles with similar issues in regards to mine, before finally deciding to make this report.

Summary of my current state:

  • Still cannot update MC Bedrock Edition ( I can access Java, though ) or other apps -- known by the methods tried
  • Not able to open or access MS Store after resetting it
  • Tired and out of options ...

Well, that pretty much is all. Apologies if I wrote too long, too short, too unspecific or detailed; I've been through several hours of trial and error with trying to fix these problems. But I truly hope someone is able to help me, it really would lift a huge weight off of my shoulders. Thank you for reading !! (--or scanning, since there is too much redundance...)

The device is on a Windows 11 Dev build, and Microsoft Store plus Store apps are failing to open/update even after wsreset, repair/reset, and service checks. From the available guidance, the supported steps are:

    1. Reset the Microsoft Store cache again
      • Press Windows logo key + R.
      • Type wsreset.exe and select OK.
      • A blank Command Prompt opens and closes after some seconds, and Microsoft Store should open automatically.
    2. Make sure Windows is fully updated
      • Select Start > Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates.
      • Install all available updates and restart.
    3. Verify date, time, and region
      • Go to Settings > Time & language > Date & time.
      • Turn on Set time automatically and Set time zone automatically.
      • Confirm region/language under Settings > Time & language > Language & region.
    4. Repair/reset Microsoft Store and affected apps (when Store entry is visible)
      • Go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
      • Select Microsoft Store > Advanced options.
      • First choose Repair. If the issue persists, choose Reset.
      • Do the same for the Minecraft Launcher and any other failing apps.
    5. Update Microsoft Store itself (when it opens)
      • Open Microsoft Store from Start.
      • Select Library > Get updates.
      • Let Store update itself and other apps.
    6. Reinstall apps from Library (when Store opens)
      • In Microsoft Store, go to Library.
      • Locate Minecraft Bedrock and other problematic apps and select Install.
    7. Run the Windows Store Apps troubleshooter (Windows 10 guidance, similar path on 11)
      • Open Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.
      • Select Windows Store apps > Run the troubleshooter.

If Microsoft Store still will not open or apps still cannot be updated after these supported steps, the remaining officially recommended path in similar corruption cases is an in-place repair/upgrade of Windows using the appropriate Windows 11 media, ensuring the option to keep files and apps is selected.
