How to fix Microsoft not letting you log in

I cannot log into my Microsoft account, specifically to access my Minecraft account. I am using the Modrinth app to launch my Minecraft game, and I click "Sign in again", which brings me to a page where I select my regular Microsoft account I always use. I click that, but it sends me straight to the last page where it "fails". I tried everything I could think of, I have no clue what to do.

This seems to be an emerging problem with the login process, there are many, many people reporting they cannot log into Minecraft for the last while, most likely you will need to wait for Microsoft to resolve this on their server side, the best option is to open the Feedback Hub app in Windows and report this, the more people that report this, the sooner they will resolve the problem.

Follow these steps in order, testing sign-in again after each step:

    1. Run the Microsoft sign-in helper
    2. Confirm the Microsoft account itself works
    3. Check for account blocks or verification issues
      • If messages like “Try another verification method” or repeated verification prompts appear, follow these steps:
        • Try a different verification method on the account (alternate email instead of SMS, or vice versa).
        • Try a different network (switch between Wi‑Fi and mobile hotspot, or another Wi‑Fi).
        • Wait at least 24 hours without repeated attempts if it looks like a temporary block, then try again.
        • If still blocked, run the sign-in helper again from: https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=2241206
    4. Fix possible Error 400 / too many attempts
      • If an Error 400 or similar sign-in failure appears:
        • On the Microsoft sign-in page, choose Other ways to sign in and use a different method (Windows Hello, PIN, Authenticator app, or email code) if configured.
        • Try signing in from a different device (another PC or phone) and/or a different browser.
        • If using a Microsoft app for sign-in, reinstall or update that app.
    5. Make sure Windows sign-in and network are healthy
      • Confirm Windows account sign-in on the PC works normally. If there are Windows sign-in issues (PIN, password, or Hello problems), fix those first using the Windows sign-in troubleshooting guides.
      • Restart the PC fully, then try Modrinth again.
    6. Test Minecraft sign-in via the official launcher
      • Open the official Minecraft Launcher (from Microsoft Store or the standard installer).
      • Sign in there with the same Microsoft account.
      • If the account signs in and shows the Minecraft license correctly in the official launcher, close it and then try Modrinth again. (In similar cases, successfully signing in via the official launcher refreshed the account and fixed third‑party client sign-in.)
    7. If the Microsoft account was recently blocked or changed
      • If the account was previously blocked due to unusual activity or many attempts, wait and then retry phone/email verification as described above; users have reported that retrying phone verification after some time finally delivered the code, allowing them to change the password and add more security methods.

If none of these steps resolve the issue and the Microsoft account works in a browser and in the official Minecraft launcher, the remaining problem is likely specific to the Modrinth client; in that case, reinstall Modrinth or contact Modrinth support while confirming that the Microsoft account itself is healthy using the steps above.
