Can we use different default browser for Microsoft Teams?

OS: Windows 11

I am using Teams for organization/work. I do have my useful login/bookmarks in Edge and so I want to open links from Teams in MS Edge. The rest of the PC should use the default app as configured in the Windows OS setting. It will be very easy for us to managed saved login etc.

In short, the MS Teams desktop app should have an option/setting to set the browser for all links open from there. Without changing the default app for the rest of the windows.

Thanks.

If you want to turn off the open links in Edge feature, you can do so from Teams settings: Open SettingsFiles and links > Link open preferences, and then select the desired browser from the dropdown menu.

In Microsoft Teams "Settings | Files and links", you can choose either "Default browser" or "Microsoft Edge".

You're repeating the same thing. I don't think it is possible to do what I want at the moment. Let's see what Microsoft experts say on that.

Thanks for the detailed answer and efforts though.

The problem is Microsoft. When you update MS Teams it ignores your previous setting in this case and changes it to always update links in Edge. So, you have to open teams settings and fix it after you start using the new MS Teams. Fortunately, that setting exists and can be changed easily as mentioned above.

Hello Smit L, I am Segunfunmi, an independent advisor and Microsoft user like you. Thank you for posting your query on this forum. Regarding your question, using a different default browser for Microsoft Teams on Windows 11 is possible. However, it is essential to note that Microsoft Teams will use the default browser set in your Windows settings. If you wish to open links from Teams in MS Edge while using another browser as your default, you will need to change the default browser setting in Windows each time. Here are the steps you can follow to change the default web browser in Windows 11: 1. Open the Settings app by pressing Windows+i on your keyboard, searching for "Settings" in the Start menu, and selecting the Settings app icon. 2. In Settings, click "Apps" in the sidebar and select "Default Apps" from the list. 3. In the search box below "Set defaults for applications," type the name of the browser you'd like to make the default browser in Windows 11 (for example, "Edge"). 4. Click on the name of the browser in the search results. 5. On the browser's "Default Apps" settings page, you will see a list of file extensions (such as . HTM, HTML, and . SHTML) that can potentially be associated with the browser. 6. Click the "Set Default" button near the top of the window to make this application your default browser. It will become the default for all the file types listed here. Changing the default browser will affect all applications, not just Microsoft Teams. Unfortunately, no feature exists to set a different default browser specifically for Teams. I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions. Kind regards, Segunfunmi

Thank you for the answer. however, It does not satisfy my question. I do not want to switch default browser every time. Also, I do not want to use Teams in the Edge browser so it redirects the link to a new tab. I want to configure the MS Teams app that opens links in specific browsers. The similar feature we have in Android devices allows us to set specific actions as "always" or "just once".
