How to Delay Delivery for All Messages in New Outlook (Outlook Version 1.2023.607.100)?

Before switching to New Outlook (Outlook Version 1.2023.607.100) I had delayed the sending of all messages by one minute. On New Outlook I can't find that option anymore. I tried to create a rule but "defer delivery by a number of minutes" isn't an option in the dropdown list of actions anymore. Same with creating a quick step.

Under Settings>>Mail>>Compose and Reply it allows you to "undo send" for up to 10 seconds and says "Messages can be canceled for up to 10 seconds. You can choose how long Outlook will wait to send your messages" - but I can't find where to do that.

Microsoft... PLEASE add this Delay feature back for ALL Mesages. The whole point is to be able to delay EVERY time in case you made a mistake or a new email comes into the inbox that counters your message. a 5-10 minute delay on ALL messages sent is NEEDED.

There is so much to not like about the "New Outlook" as per all of the prior without this feature I cannot use the tool but there is also the lack of multiple line previews instead forcing onto a single line or to use the reading pane to take up even more valuable real estate on the screen. The instant open on selection of any item... the list is long and the product is useless to me in it's current format.

Please add this back in. In old outlook I had a 1 minute delay set for all emails going out. I cannot tell you how many times this saved me headache or just fat fingering sending an email.

I'm going to switch back to Old Outlook until this is added to New Outlook. I'm assuming Microsoft has data on how many people use this feature? How could you miss this? No hard feeling, please add it back. Thank you.

Well that was one of the most important features to delay all messages. For me this means rolling back to the "older" version that supports this function for the meantime. Please update when it's implemented in new version.

Whenever Microsoft makes a "New" version of one of its products, I wonder if anyone in their development team goes by the old saying "If it ain't broken, don't fix it.". I try my best to be onboard every time a new UI or software version comes out but this new Outlook leaves less to be desired. While some of the UI changes are alright (not great; just alright), so many essential features have been removed. Delay Delivery for All Messages is one of those. The number of times it has saved me from embarrassment cannot be counted. And now Microsoft has decided to pull the plug on it. Please bring back the feature. This is a much-needed feature.

Update - New Outlook is crappy. I'm sorry but Microsoft - y'all got it wrong. Clearly either get rid of your feedback group or start listening to the voices of the real customers. Reverting to the "old" functioning feature-rich Outlook.

agree need the delay email rule. Also, the snooze button for meetings is not actually working. I hit snooze 5 mins before meeting and it pops up and reminds me every 5 mins

In the previous version we had the feature to advanced create rules that now is much more simpler. Having the ability of creating a rule would address this delay issue. In my case, I´d like to create a delay in every single message, waiting 2min (not only 10sec). It has saved my life multiple times..

I absolutely require this feature. "Undo Send" up to 10 seconds is akin to the rather basic Gmail Labs option in Gmail, whereas the previous Outlook Rule to Delay Send by X minutes was fully bespoke.

This and SO MANY other things are a downgrade on the new Outlook. My font changes even within the same email thread. You can no longer sort by flagged emails. You can't add a link to a network folder - only URL links. So much of the good bits of functionality in the previous version of Outlook is gone in this new version. Absolutely bonkers.

"Schedule send" for EACH and EVERY email is not what the option of "defer delivery" is for. Bring this option to new outlook please. Each sent email will wait in the Outbox for the selected amount of time (1 minute in my case). We need this option for safety, easy communication, clarity and avoidance of redundant emails. I've been delaying all emails one minute for years. 10 seconds simply is not enough time. Please either allow delay rules to be as they were in the past or increase the standard allowable delay beyond 10 seconds - it should be minutes.

Me too (1 minute for years) and totally agree. This is madness. What happened to taking into account customer feedback and customer experience design? How many people said "nah - don't need the delay all messages functionality"?!

This tool is for the customer and who in their right minds made the decision to remove this key functionality? Bonkers. Microsoft, this is going backwards not forward. AND the 1 minute is a risk mitigant in this age of doing everything at speed - please bring it back. The impact of not is lower adoption of the new Outlook - most features for which are great, but the risk of sending an incomplete email, or saying something I don't want to say and not being able to "unring that bell" is too great. so I changed back to the classic Outlook some time ago and won't be moving forward with the new (unless you get rid of the classic Outlook) until that feature is there.

Welcome to our forum!

In the New Outlook for Windows, you can delay the delivery of individual messages. Just select the dropdown next to the Send button and select Schedule send.

However, schedule sending for all emails is currently not supported in the New Outlook for Windows. As a workaround, you can switch back to the classic Outlook at any time by clicking the toggle button in the top right corner of the window.

I, too, had a delay on all my outgoing mail (3 minutes), and it is very disheartening that this feature (which saved me many embarrassing situations) is no longer available. Will this feature be supported soon, or is it being eliminated permanently? It's a dreadful inefficiency to create a custom send time for individual emails.

I agree, delayed send is a lifesaver. Holding outgoing emails for 10 seconds barely gives the user enough time to cancel the email even if they realize they want to cancel it immediately after hitting send, but usually it takes a minute or so before I realize I sent an email with wrong information.

The answer that Faery supplied does not appear on my Desktop app of the New Outlook, which is what I prefer to use as it allows me to connect my email account for my business, which is not a yahoo, outlook or gmail account.

I can see the option in Outlook online.

So, this still needs to be added to the Desktop app to make this a viable solution for small businesses.

Adding my vote to the pile - I just want my outbox back. It's not even that i might send a mistake, its just that after i send an email, sometimes I want to add something to it so that I don't have to send another one and possibly break the email chain.

Look and feel stuff, I can get used to. Even messing around with the tasks list- fine, I can adapt. But this is a change that I do not welcome - setting a delay for every single email individually is simply not a viable workaround.

You really made a mistake by taking this option out. Deferring delivery of messages is key. It happens too often I have to change a message already sent because of new insights or forgetting to attach a document.

I will be restoring the old version. I prefer to hold all my outgoing emails for several minutes, permitting me a chance to catch my breath and reread what I wrote. It has saved me many times from a typo-ridden, grammatically-poor, content-insensitive email from going into the wild where it can be seen forever. While AI may help with typos and grammar, it can't help with insensitive content. But a PAUSE can!

Agreed with the growing number of comments. This is a vital part of my working life and I will go back to Old Outlook to use the existing feature there and urge Microsoft to listen and simply add back something that was already there and in high use.

Sadly, I think many people have - myself included. It's too risky to work without that delay and working from two versions of Outlook isn't ideal.
