My surface app is not displaying an option to enable or disable smart charging, as you can see on the attached image I can view smart charging instructions but there's no option to enable or disable it

    Hi Hussain_02,

Thank you for reaching Microsoft Community.

Smart charging is always active and turns on automatically when it detects your device is plugged in for prolonged periods or used at elevated temperatures. Only some Surface devices can manually pause smart charging, which does not include Surface Laptop 4. To see compatible devices, go to Caring for your Surface battery and look for devices that don't have an asterisk (*).

For Surface Laptop 4 and the other Surface devices that support Battery Smart Charging but have an asterisk (*), a battery with a heart icon won’t appear. To fully charge your Surface, you'll need to follow the Battery Smart Charging steps above in Surface features to optimize your battery longevity.

If you would like to provide your feedback and suggestions on how to improve this feature, please click the Feedback button in the lower right corner of Surface app or visit Send feedback to Microsoft with the Feedback Hub app - Microsoft Support to use the Feedback Hub.

I wish you all the best and stay safe!

    Kind regards,

    Lavenia

Thank you for the response. I am using a Surface Pro 8, and my device has been automatically restarting after a week of continuous charging

Bonnie, did your smart charging ever come back on?

If not, has anyone found a way to turn it on?

My laptop is normally plugged in, so it's at 100% most of the time. Smart charging has never come on automatically. (I may have disabled it when I initialised the machine, I can't remember). Now, after a few years, my battery capacity is severely reduced. So I'm only learning about this stuff now that I've got a problem.

GRD, sorry for the slow response ... I did not notice your post until now (as I was cleaning up old emails).

Yes, my smart charging works fine ... it comes back on when it's supposed to (after a few days, I don't remember now how many it was).

Did you get the Surface App and try it? Although, I have no idea how much that will help you with an already diminished battery.

    A suggestion and request:

I suggest you provide a manual option (through the Surface App?) to manually turn the battery saver feature on and off. Sometimes even when using the battery, I'd still like to charge to only 80%.

Can you provide more specifics about what conditions 'kick in' to turn on smart saver, such as how many hours does it take to kick in? Can I have short periods on the battery (such as moving from one room to another) and still have the battery saver feature activate itself?

I ask in part because over the last 7 days my battery has been charging to 100% and I don't really want it to.
