Task Host Window

Anonymous
2013-06-02T01:14:29+00:00

While shutting down, a message 'Task Host Window  is running background tasks' is being displayed.

I was asked to Force Shut Down or to close the process by clicking cancel.

I already tried Force Shut Down(Shut Down Anyway) and my PC behavior was adversely affected.

I've browsed many forums and no proper solution is available to this problem.

Hot fixes are made available for Windows 7 bot not for Windows 8.

I hope a solution and Thanks.

Yes  I have the same issue on a Toshiba U940 laptop this problem came after I updated to 8.1

I have had to abandon windows as it is just to unreliable and the updates take so long to install that it is really not usable in a business environment.

I have installed Linux Centos and am amazed how stable this OS is compared to windows and the upgrades are done while the system is on so no more 20 minute waits while the windows updates.

Although it is free software I chose to contribute to the Centos people what I paid for windows on the 24 computers we have in our office I also paid for the open source office program we have switched to as we really need these programs to continue.

The problem is i have to use windows for my hearing aid software and my phone software otherwise I would get rid of it all together and because there is no cure for this shutdown issue my disk is not seen as clean by Centos and it will not read from it so its important you people at microsoft come up with something because at the moment the product is not fit for purpose.

I also have an issue that if I open control panel it I cannot close the window which may be related to this issue.

    Hi Satya,

The Shutdown Process involves shutting down all the software running on your system, one at a time. There are instances when a software just hangs up and you are unable shut it down, even though it no longer appears on the active screen.

Method 1: You may access the Task Manager and **** end processes to check if that helps.

    a.       Right click on the Status Bar on the bottom of your screen.

    b.      Left Click on the Task Manager.

    c.       Click on "Applications", highlight -all- the active items listed, and click "End Task".

Wait for the process to finish, and click "End Task" on any warning windows that come up.

    d.      When the Applications section is empty, click on EXIT.

    e.       You can then proceed with Shut-Down.

You may refer to the link.

Manage apps and services with Task Manager

Method 2: Check if you face the same issues even in Safe mode as the computer will start with limited drivers and software which will help in checking if any third party software is causing the issue.

Step 1: Refer the section safe mode in the link to start the computer in safe mode.

Windows Startup Settings (including safe mode)

     http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/windows-startup-settings-including-safe-mode

Note: Please restart the computer to start in normal mode.

Step 2: If the issue doesn’t occur in safe mode please check in clean boot as it will disable all the third party software and you will be able to recognize which software is causing the computer to work slow.

Please refer to the link to start the computer in clean boot.

Note: Refer the section “How to reset the computer to start as usual after troubleshooting in clean boot” of the Kb article to boot the computer in normal startup after fixing the issue.
