Authentication failed error on Outlook application on Android device

I am experiencing this same issue of the Outlook application on my Samsung Galaxy (Model SGH-T959V, Firmware Version 2.2.1).  I first encountered the issue when I updated my Hotmail application a couple of weeks ago.  That Hotmail update then provides no other option than to Upgrade to Outlook.  After installing the Outlook application, I sign in using my hotmail email and password.  The next step asks if I will "let this app access your info" at which point I press the Yes button.  Soon after that, I receive a message that "Authentification failed; Authentication was not successful" with a button to "Try Again."  I have tried again multiple times.  I have also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Outlook application numerous times for the past two weeks and I run into the same result.

Please fix this issue soon or reinstate the previous version of Hotmail in the Play Store since the Hotmail application was working just fine.

I appreciate your time.

Peace be with you.

Original title: Authentication failed; Authentication was not successful

Sincerely,

Joseph Houser

I am having exactly the same problem.  I am getting the "Authentication Failed" error message, at first I thought I typed the wrong password (or username), so I tried again and again without avail, but the "Authentication Failed."

Please notify me when the fix is ready, so I can download again and give you an objective rating.

    Hi Jose Balboa,

Welcome to Microsoft Community and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience if you are also unable to setup your account from the Outlook.com app. As previously mentioned, we still don't have a timeframe as to when the app will be fixed. Since they are still working on a resolution, we advise that you temporarily log in your accounts through any of these options:

    • Using your phone's default mail app (EAS)
    • Your phone's web browser (m.outlook.com)

In addition, providing the log files of the Outlook.com app will help our product specialists in creating a resolution for this concern. Refer to the previous post for steps on getting the log files.

Your patience and cooperation is greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

    Hi Joseph,

The step 1 in gathering logs for the issue is just simply opening the app like what you did in the step 1 of the 5 steps you have provided. Afterwards follow the following steps. If you are still unsuccessful, please try again a few times and attempt to get the logs. If fine trace does not work, you can choose the trace instead.

Let us know if you have further questions.

    Thank you.

"Afterward follow the following steps"  There are no following steps in your note.  In the 11 steps that Michelle Anne D. listed, the second step is to click ... in message view.  But that assumes that you are logged in and can see your messages.  But the whole problem is that it will not let us log in.  When we try, it says that it cannot authenticate us and bounces back out to the log in screen.

    Hi guys,

I am having the same problem too. It appears that this is widespread and causing millions of people great inconvenience. How about fixing the problem or reverting back to the system that clearly worked?

To add insult to injury, all my phone contacts were stored in my hotmail app. Now that I've been forced to upgrade, I don't even have any contacts on my phone.

Please inform me as soon as you have a solution. I've never been a fan of microsoft, and this situation is not helping...
