How to Disable single click to open email in New Outlook?

In New Outlook, it opens an email when I click on it.

I want to change the setting to double-click. Please help.

    I've given up and reverted to the old Outlook over this basic behaviour. Doing that gives you an option to feed back on why you're reverting. Probably more effective than commenting here.

    This series of menu / function options does NOT exist in win 11.

    "NEW" Outlook: I was forced into it March 17th 2025

    Settings / Mail / Message handling / Mark as read section > "Don't automatically mark items as read."

    It's one step closer but now you have to mark it read yourself. OMG! Used to be able to open in new window and that would mark it as read.
