In New Outlook, it opens an email when I click on it.

I want to change the setting to double-click. Please help.

I've been to numerous forums where people are upset with this functionality, but I haven't come across the real fix you're looking for. Until that functionality exists, here's the workaround I use:

Turn reading pane on with bottom placement and shrink the reading pane down as small as it allows. It doesn't feel like it's in the way, and I can single click through everything without losing my inbox view. And I can double click to open the email in a new window.

Hope this helps ease your frustration!

This seems to the best of all bad options. I have no interest in having a reading pane but I cannot live with an email opening upon a single click. MSFT really needs to fix this issue.

I have not found a solution to this aggravating issue, but I did discover an optional workaround:

Press the CNTRL key and click on the email - it will then check the box and highlight it instead of opening the email. Essentially it works like the old Outlook when using the CNTRL key to select several emails at a time.

Not ideal, but thought I'd share. Sorry in advance if someone shared this already.

This worked!! As much as I do not like to have a reading pane, I can live with it on the bottom and shrunk, I cannot function with the single click opening messages.

    Thank You!!

Probably messes up Microsoft's user-behaviour analytics though :-) They'll be getting reports that users choose to turn on the reading pane, when we are only doing it to get rid of the one-click behaviour and would really rather not have than pane either!
