Document's format changes when working on the same document on different computers

We are using Publisher 2010 on the computers in our office but when opening the same document on different computers the formatting is different, specifically the spacing between lines.  Which means you cannot share the document between these two computers.  When the text on the 2nd computer is highlighted it shows a space above the text as if it were a much large font size.  This is only true for one of the computers.  Others work just fine.  What's wrong with the one that doesn't display correctly?

Check to make sure that the odd computer is not running Pub 2007. MS changed the default paragraph settings in Pub 2010.

Are you just opening the file to see the difference, or copy and pasting into a different publication?

I have just tried a suggestion from my brother:

Setting the line spacing for the whole page to 16pt (in Win7 and Win 8).  Makes them identical.

Albeit, the line spacing is not consistent in all files from page to page (so still a long process to manually fix each file).  However it may hint at a solution.

When I open your pdf files, stay at the top of page 1, and switch back and forth from the Win7 to the Win8 it appears to me that both the line spacing and the text size is different. Open your first page and concentrate on the three lines of text in the header: level 1, 18.1, Fractions of a number. It appears to me that the text is 'elongated' slightly. Focus your attention on the size and shape of the '8'. Would you agree that the text is elongated but does not take up more space horizontally?

I agree that spacing is an issue, as you can see the lines of text shift. A good example of that is Page 2. go to the top of each page and toggle back and forth between the two pdf files and the distance between the 'coins' and line 'a.' really varies.

When you say that you changed the line spacing to 16 pt, did you mean that you changed the font size to 16? If you changed the line spacing would you please tell me the specific steps you took to do that? I want to reproduce it.

    Thanks again for your help.

Thank you for replying so promptly.

All files were written using Publisher 2007 on Windows 7.

We have been using 2007 on Windows 7 only.

We tried a 2010 trial on our first Windows 8 machine, but thought it was a problem with the trial software not Win 8.

I installed a new hard drive on my laptop (and Win 8 on it) 2 days ago.  Office 2013 Small Business Premium was installed on it yesterday.  - Exhibiting the same issues.

We are currently running the following machines:

    1 - Laptop (WIn 8 / Office 2013) - Completely new install.

          Before being reinstalled was running Win7 SP1 / office 2007, then 2013),

    2 - Laptop (Win 8 / Office 2013 (but has run 2010),

    3 - Desktop (Win 7 SP1/ Office 2013, but had run 2007).

Laptop 2 is 32bit, The others are 64 bit.  The version of Office 2013 installed is 32 bit as this was recommended by when downloading from Office365.

What we print, whether to PDF, XPS or on paper (using the same printers) is laid out the same as on the screen.  Those PDF were created using the 'save as' option in Publisher.

    Thanks.

I am still not clear about one thing. While the original .pub file was produced on a Win7 machine with Publisher 2007, I am not sure how you produced the pdf files. Were both produced using Pub 2013, with one on your Win7 machine and one on your Win8 machine? It sounds like you have converted everything to Pub 2013 with the only difference being the version of Windows, is that correct? I am trying to remove as many variables as possible.

Also to be clear, the spacing is a problem from the moment you open the Publisher file in Publisher on the different Windows machines, and the PDF just documents what you see within Publisher...it is not created by the PDF tool, correct?

This is the link to the post I placed on the Office 365 forum (now approved)

Files laid out differently in Publisher 2013 on Win 8 compared to Win 7
