Document's format changes when working on the same document on different computers

We are using Publisher 2010 on the computers in our office but when opening the same document on different computers the formatting is different, specifically the spacing between lines.  Which means you cannot share the document between these two computers.  When the text on the 2nd computer is highlighted it shows a space above the text as if it were a much large font size.  This is only true for one of the computers.  Others work just fine.  What's wrong with the one that doesn't display correctly?

Check to make sure that the odd computer is not running Pub 2007. MS changed the default paragraph settings in Pub 2010.

Are you just opening the file to see the difference, or copy and pasting into a different publication?

In a moment of inspiration!  I just copied the Arial fonts from Windows 7 to my Windows 8 folder.

Et voila!  It had to be something so very easy!!!  1 file is OK, will check some more before I get too excited!  God know why Windows changed the font size for Windows 8?!?! :-)

Thank you for all the support so far.

I've just tried opening the original files using Publisher 2007, and copying and pasting the content over to new 2010 files (on Win 8) and 2013 files (on Win 7).  I also tried opening the files on my Win 8 laptop in Publisher 2013 and copying and pasting to new Publisher 2013 files.

Non of the results were pretty.  All the colours were different, and the font changed to calibri (10pt), from Arial (14pt).  The logo in the top left corner remained unchanged (Font - Brandley Hand ITC at 12pt).

    DavidF,

Yes both PDF's were produced using Office 2013 today (one on the Win 7 machine and one on the Win 8 machine).  I have only opened the files with office 2013 (on both machines), presumable there has been an automatic format change when opening the files(?).

As far as I'm aware the only difference is the version of Windows, both have all available updates installed.

Yes.  The spacing problem is from the moment I open the files.  The error does not arise when printing or converting to a PDF or XPS file.

I can't see the 8 on the second line changing between the different PDF, however I do get the same effects you mentioned with some of the other letters.  Though it may be a difference in the character spacing.  When comparing the word 'divided' in the first question, the 'd' certainly seem to jump up and to the right on the win 8 version.  Agreed - The spacing between the coins and line a. varies greatly.

I definitely changed the line spacing, not the font size.  On both versions of Windows:

I highlighted all the text in the main text box (using Ctrl+A),

Opened the 'line spacing options' using the link on the ribbon (Home -> Paragraph -> Line  Spacing -> Line Spacing Options),

I then changed the 'Between lines:' (under 'Indents and Spacing' -> Line Spacing) from '1sp' to '16pt'.

    Clicked OK.

I printed them, and overlayed the printouts.  They were as good as identical.  Albeit the bottom line of each page was 1 or 2 mm out vertically.

I have also been asked whether the fonts have been installed on both machines.  The main text is Arial.  The only other text on the pages is 'Bradley Hand ITC' which is 'The Classroom' on the top left corner.

Thank you for all of your help!

Thanks for the additional comments and explanation. I do not have Win8 installed, and hope to avoid it, so getting this help from you is really appeciated.

What I am observing may just be that the height of each line is slightly less in Win8 than in Win7, whether it be a line of text or an empty line. Going back to your page 2 and the space between your second line of text under 1. and line a...where the coins are located...I can see from your .pub file that you entered 10 blank lines to create that space, based on the number of paragraph symbols. Those ten lines take less vertical space in Win8 than the ten lines in Win7. Another user in one of the other threads guessed that it was about 5% less.

I am not sure what is next but I am going to try to submit this bug somewhere. If I get any feedback I will report back. And of course if you hear anything or get any more insight, please post again.
